You're teaching him yourself?
Kudos to you, girl!
:celebrate: -
Hi buds
Yes, I teach him at the moment. I am doing it with the help of your postings in the forum, your advices to the parents here and also tamarind's blog. I must say a big thank you to you and tamarind.
Teaching him at home on my own requires a lot of discipline. I must say that I am still learning because you know as a SAHM of two boys, there are many distractions at home. Hopefully, he's ok with my teaching

You're welcome, Hifive. Yes it does take a LOTTA discipline, time & effort to
teach our own children. But if you do it right, the satisfaction is immeasurable.
Psst, i'm still learning too..

Hi buds,
Great to see you here.
Congratulations! May i know when are you giving birth?
I have just re-introduced phonics to my son weeks ago. We had stopped it for 8-9months as he wasn’t like it in the past due to some reasons.
He is in vowel a now and make steady progress. The key rule is to teach according to his own pace and do revisions ends of the week and month.
Do you think it is good to introduce blending to 2.5yo? My daughter has short attention too.
Thanks a lot. -

Jia-you ok? :rahrah:Charmaine_chong:
Nope. At least not in my opinion. I've seen many very young children whoDo you think it is good to introduce blending to 2.5yo?
learn to read too fast lax on other developmental skills. Try not to rush
into ensuring the child can read as fast as possible.
While there may be some kids who can manage well, most i've had the
experience of working with, were either not able to sustain reading
interest, have poor writing skills and fine motor skills in general; on top
of short attention span. They're more impatient and tend to make mistakes
with reading practices. In my opinion, there's a place and time for every
thing. Cannot overdo the speed. As parents, we should know the countless
concepts we can introduce to young children other than just introducing the
reading process.
Attention span can also be nurtured to last longer everyday. Start with doing
activities the child enjoys most and gradually increase the duration. Then,
introduce new things and start with short sessions & prolong future sessions
say abt 3 minutes at a time.
It's like graduating from watching 15min VCDs/TV shows to half an hour..
and slowly to movies.
Objective is to observe what the child likes to do
best and work on from there. -
Hi Buds,
Long time no talk
How have you been? Wow it's fast you are giving birth soon!
Thanks for all the useful posts.
I need advice from you. My son is a bit confused between /c/ and /k/. Is it because I do not emphasize enough on the /k/ sound? Please help. Thanks Buds! -
Dear Buds,
Thanks a lot.
Buds, i would like to check with you whether you have any idea where i can get silly sentence games to play with my kids.

You're welcome! I love sharing! :celebrate:Thanks for all the useful posts.
And i'm very happy to know you find them useful. :love:keas:
Nope. Not your fault they both sound the same.I need advice from you. My son is a bit confused between /c/ and /k/. Is it because I do not emphasize enough on the /k/ sound? Please help. Thanks Buds!
If need be to spell it out or write it out, my children and students would
usually double check with me... do you want the \"kangaroo\" \"k-uh\" or
the \"cat\" \"c-uh\"? With such questions from the children, you KNOW
that they know the difference.
No worries.
If your son doesn't ask it, you may offer the assistance to him.
Eg. \"Mummy needs the /c/ that will start off the word cake... or candy...
But try not to \"tell\" him the answer by sharing you want the /c/
with the curve. By offering the other words that begin with
the same sound, your son will be more exposed to other words
than those you've introduced... or those he's read... or those tt
he has heard. -
