All About Full-Time Maids

Just to share the first maid we had in 2007. She was quite pleasant looking and young, despite married with two young kids. We employed her because we wanted a better-looking maid so as to not fighen our infant baby. She was with us for less than a year. We had to send her off because she tried to feed my baby then with hot water.


Just last month my mother-inlaw happened to chance upon her in Singapore. She was behaving quite intimate with another elder man. My MIL exchanged a few words with her - apparently she had divoced her husband in Phillipines, and had married her employer …

Just want to add story about maids.


Last month our family came back from holiday and found out that our maid (now ex-maid) was prostituting herself in our apt when we were away. This was not the first time we left her alone in our apt. She already with us for many years, and we trusted her - treated her like our own family.

The night when we came back, I accidentally passed by her bedroom, and saw many evidences (condoms, sorry to say it frankly). I asked her and she admitted herself doing it. Moreover, one of the guy is our neighbour. I checked her handphone, and found more evidences. Can’t take it anymore, and sent her back home two days after that. I am sure she will come back to work again, as her husband was jobless at her hometown and waiting for her to send money back.

After sending her back home, when I showered my eldest son ( 5 y.o)he told me all the ill treatment he got when my maid took care of him and his younger brother.

I treated my ex-maid very kindly too. I told my eldest child, \"auntie is mommy's friend. She's here to help me look after all of you\" (so that she won't treat her like a servant). We even helped her with the housework (like ironing when the laundry piled up, mopping the floor, change bed sheets), so she is not overworked as she looked after my baby.

Like you, I also only came to know of the \"wonderful\" things she has been doing behind my back only after I sent her back.

I thought that if we treated her well, she would reciprocrate and will treat us in kind. I told my hubby when we first decided on hiring her that we, as employers, get to choose who we employ. But the maids don't get a choice whom they want to work for.

She wasn't grateful at all.

Now, we still treat our current maid well, but the relationship is more business like. And I'm always on my guard, as the saying goes \"never be with a heart to harm others, never be without a heart to guard against others\"

JHJC, I have issues with LXX Garden in Bukit Timah too. The maid did not turn up & they refused to return my deposit back. At the point of transaction, the clause indicates that deposit will be return if the maid did not turn up. Luckily, I insisted in not paying them the full amount due as requested.

Just like EN and JHJC, I engaged the services of LXX Garden at Bukit Timah. This agency provides extremely low quality maids - don't understand English and great pretender and like to complain when they are rejected or returned by their employers for their poor performance and attitude. And the agency doesn't help but just think about how not to refund money to you.

Whatever, beware of this agency : LXX Garden (Bkt Timah) and another branch, known by a different name, Asset (in the north-eastern part of Singapore).

nowadays they do let the maid choose their employers… as in, they will ask us abt our profile and then inform the maid. if the maid dun feel up to it, they can choose not to come…
i rather they do it this way… let the maid know what to expect and then she comes over knowing what environment she will be in… then again, we cannot expect the angecy to be totally frank with them lar…

i have no experience with having maids… but i m currently waiting for mine to come… i m crossing my fingers that she dun give me problem coz i m expecting my #2 and #1 is just 8mths…

huh? kiasupig, you sure it's a good idea to take one with 'unclean' hands back? I heard from friend that her maid stole money from the family - but they continued with her (cos she was a good cook). but seems like her habits didn't die.

I really hate if they tell lies or if they steal. if trust is lost, how to continue the working relationship?

I totally agree with you that you should really look for another maid. Tell them rules (tamarind has good house rules) right from the day they report to work. Refresh with her every month the house rules for the first 3 month. Thereafter every six month. I am doing it now.

we have maid challenages and on top of that we have a even greater challenage… maid agencys!

I was so glad that i gotten some help from KS Parents here and took Lxx Garden, Bukit Timah Shopping to Small Claims Tribunals (SCT). AEAS was an experiences (one step that you can skip- hint hint).
for those has been following up on my update…here is part 3?
Once again… BEWARE of Lxx Garden. Totally unethical con shop. Can you imagine i have to document everything with this agency, who called me on what , when, in an excel sheet. Its a lot of work, but i was determined to take my money back from these liars…and make my points. They have provided a maid that i never had… create stories that was never there, extra charges that is not in the contract etc etc.

Anyway, the agency suggested to settle the case out of court with a post dated cheque…i did not take up their offer which i know was just entertaining me. ANd i was right… at the SCT hearing they said best, and out of goodwill agency will OFFER ME A FREE MAID REPLACEMENT ???
The judge look at all the communication i have documented, SENT them back to pick up the cheque for me in 2 hours.

this experience has suck up a lot of my time, but i will not pass my suffering to another family… no way, i let a bad maid to be transferred, and i told the agency, i will tell everyone of all their tricks they have… including instigating the maid to make false police reports and extra charges for boarding the maid during festive sessions…

BlueSky unfortunately you are the 3rd victim here…just have to take them to task. And contiue to warn pple of this agency. What to do… there is no law to protect us … THE EMPLOYERS!

I am really glad to have found such support and information from members of KS parents.

BTW, I am just probably just the third victim this year to suffer from using LXX Garden services, we don’t know how many other people/ employers had such similar unfortunate situation before.

We have to stay united to protect ourselves (employers) from maids and maids agencies.
