hi empressplace,

I really agree with what you said about Pat’s schoolhouse admin. After the recent incident with the CDA GIRO, I am really starting to have my doubts.

I was debating between PSH and Chiltern House, but eventually decided on the former cos I felt that they had a more well-rounded education compared to CH. But like what you said, PSH admin really has a lot of areas for improvement!

I just read that Ms Ada Teo will be transfered to Tanglin. So disappointed! She was actually the main reason why I finally decided to enrol my kid in PSH. She was efficient in attending to my queries, and seemed really passionate about early childhoold education.

I hope I won’t regret my decision!
Seems like most of the feedbacks on most of the PSH branches are really good. My child is currently at the Arena branch but because of the poor management of the principal, I am considering of transferring her to Halifax branch.

Anyone knows if there is priority for school transfer as i understand that Halifax always has really long waiting list....

I have spoken to Ada (priniciple from Halifax but now heading Tanglin) before and was told that priority is given to siblings first and followed by internal transfer. Confirmation has to be done by end Sep with registration form submitted.

Initially, I was contemplating to change there as well after hearing good reviews but utimately put the thought away. Reason is he's doing very well in current branch. He knows his friends, teachers, enjoys the rustic school environment and learning much, thus I don't want him to go through all over again in a new environment.

I heard that Halifax, Seranggon and Buckely are having the long wait list esp those born in 2007 and 2008. Maybe you would like to share more about what are the unpleasant stuff you encountered at Arena? Have you raised your concern to the principle ......

The principal will be the last person i will check with. To think that not only the teachers turnover is high, the students turnover is also very high!! By the way, I have notice that Pats Arena has been having alot of honey stars/cornflakes/cocoa crunch for breakfast or snacktime as compared to last time whereby i can hardly see those 'heaty stuffs' was served for the kids!
Hi smilingmummy. I am quite surprised by what you have said about Pat's Arena. I did check with my DS but he told me that they sometimes do have cereals but only at most once a week. Can you share with us what other unpleasant stuff have you encountered?
So far, the teachers who have left are a few of the really younger teachers (with the exception of 2 more experienced ones whom told me that they wanted more time for their own children). I must say that the job of a Pat's schoolhouse teacher is not that easy, they have to attend quite a few courses to upgrade themselves, going back to school on saturdays for these and meetings. I must say my DSs are quite lucky to get pretty good teachers for the past years.
As for the Principal, I have always have pretty good relationship with her. She has helped me a lot in the past (of course i have also helped whenever she needed parents to be involved in anything). But it is also a 2-way thing, if you have any concerns, you must find time to speak to her.

Hi

Can any parents provide me some info on the nursery extended programme? and the additional program that we can pay for to add on, like swimming etc…

Is the amount we paid include transportation for lesson ?

My DS will be under full day nursery extended program next year in Serangoon. I was told that extended program will include:-

1)\tEnglish S&D
2)\tChinese S&D
3)\tI-Maths
4)\t FasTrack Music
5)\t FasTracKids

With extended program, children nap time will still remain between 1 -3 pm.

There is an additional bundle programs available:-
1) Swimming
3) Harmony road
3) Cookery.

This bundle add-on program will cost extra $140 -$150 each month (can’t remember the exact cost). If you just want to choose 1 program, it will cost about $120 which is not worth it.

With extended + add-on program, 3 days nap time will be reduced to an hour and balance 2 days nap time remain 2 hours

I am in dilemma now….so contemplating to include the additional bundle program into the extended program. However, I also do not want exhaust DS at the end of each day as I still want to spend some time with him on reading and other activities at home in the evening. What a headache………

If you have the school time table it would be good to start him on the schedule especially nap time- This is when both the kids and the teachers have the most prob. Kids refuse to sleep and teachers need them to sleep.
Also you can read him books about going to school, tell him about his teachers and friends.Give him his bag/water bottle tell him that's his and for him to bring to school.
other than what you can do at home, on the day itself , be calm and just say a quick good bye assure him and leave. That way your kid will also sense that you feel safe leaving him there and he too will feel safe.Probably cry for 5-10mins and he will be alright.
i noticed in my church that the children whose parents give a quick good bye, assure the kids, leave without turning back settle faster and quicker.

I am not sure if the extra cost for swimming classes includes transportation?

ur child is in serangoon right? my boy is in playgrp morning half this year. during our recent meet the parent session (yes, it's over coz his chinese teacher going maternity leave, so it was conducted before she's off duty), his teachers informed me that as of next year , there is only morning half, after half, and full day.. no extended half. so meaning to say, if i continue him w morning half, he will not be attending all these enrichment classes right?

but likewise, i am still not keen to let him go full day leh, would prefer him to nap at home as well. but problem is i am working n he's probably doing nothing but playing w his car collection after his nap in the afternoons.

did ur child classmates in playgrp maintains the same in nursery (wat about those who opt for full day, they maintain in his/her same class or got separated to those full day class?)
Sorry Smurfy for this super late reply. I have not been logging in lately.

Normally the whole playgroup class will be promoted to nursery class and one of the playgroup's teachers will move on with them. For children who opted for full day, they will be grouped together. For children attending am half, they will be grouped together regardless of whether they have extended. After am class, the children who are attending extended class will gather in one class to take a short break before the class starts. I was told they will normally try to let the children stay in the same class as nursery children are still young and thrive on familiarity.

If you let your child opt for full day, most probably he will go to the full day class as their schedule is different from the am extended class. I've not heard that they will be dropping the am extended class for nursery. It's pretty popular so I'm surprised if they do.
