        Thanks.

There is no major performance upcoming, just felt that an occassional practise during the trip which is quite long given its 2 week, would be good to keep in good form.

I cant find a mute his violin size just now in the shop... so may have to drop the idea.
Oh no worries. 2 weeks not so long to be given a break from their violins.

We are going on a 2 week holiday and I am rather concerned about how we can continue our daily practises. Anyone who had young kids playing the violin and had experience bringing the violin for practise during their time overseas?

Is it advisable to practise with a rubber mute? As we will be in a cold, winter country, are there any specific things we need to do to protect the violin?
Poohy, don't worry, since u're all gg for a holiday, juz enjoy the holiday! I'm now pregnant and during my 1st trimester, I had strong symptoms that I've been literally resting n resting on bed. Becos of that, I stopped girl's lessons and even home practices as I couldn't coach her(she's 5yo). When we resumed her lessons after abt 2 1/2 months, she still remembers to play, no problem at all. Kids have elephant memory I supposed... πŸ™‚

How long does it take to take first graded exam? My boy is learning violin for about 5 mths now, teacher said it takes at least 1-2 year before taking exam.

Well, it's not as if the skills are not learnt along the way. My ds started late at 8 years old though. Started with Suzuki but switched to another teacher when he was in book 3 or 4 after learning about 2 years. He did his Grade 4 exam that year then and his gr 8 exam 3.5years after that.
