I use my left hand for writing only.... Chopsticks, computer mouse, scissor , rackets etc all used my right hand.....

I find it very useful, I can eat and write at the same time 😛
I can write and use the mouse at the same time, very useful.

My son is a leftie too. I have no intention to correct him since young. In fact, I tell him he’s special and a lot of talented and brilliant people are lefties too.

It has never been a handicap - he writes fast and rather neatly. Now, I suspect that he was selected for the school tennis team due to the fact that he’s a leftie.

The only difficulty he has is when he is using the scissors - he can never cut as neatly and straight as his sis and for me, to sit with him during extended family gatherings at the crowded dining table is 'troublesome"…

I sent my k2 son for a diagnostic assessment and was told he is left dominant. I was told to encourage him to write with his left hand. He is writing with his right hand and his handwriting is horrible.

Should I encourage him to write with his left hand even if he is comfortable writing with his right hand ?

my brother and i are lefties - but we only write with our left while playing games and the rest with our right hand…

i have no problem using scissors, or holding chopsticks with my right hand…

there is not such thing as LEfties have untidy handwriting, right handed pple have untidy handwriting too… the only irritating part is that sometimes my hand gets stained by the ink which has not dried…

i read an article somewhere before which mentioned that it is good for boys to be lefties but not so good for gers - boys get very far ahead in life being lefties while gers lag behind…

[/quote]That's true for my boy. That's why he uses ballpoint pen instead of those \"gel\" pens which smudge.

Just to reassure female lefties; I've at least 2 female colleagues who are lefties and very brilliant in their field of work....plus some of my female uni-mates are lefties too.

my mom trained my brother to use his right hand since young. He is now ambidextros.

i feel that most of the things in the world are made for right handed people. E.g. can opener.

So if you can use both hands, you will not be disadvantaged.

you can write without hooking your wrist nor smudge your handwriting.

You can always use your left hand for other things like what some shared, playing racket games, etc.

just my 2 cents worth. 😄

I am a left-hander, so is my hubby. However, only our youngest son is a leftie. I remember a research that reported that, the older the mother when she gives birth, the higher the chance her child is a leftie. Interesting. So far, this has proven to be correct based on my own experience - my mum is a leftie and when she gave birth to my younger bro and I, she was much older and my younger bro and I are lefties thou' our older siblings are right-handed. As for my hubby, he is the youngest and he is the only leftie in his family. And now, only my youngest is a leftie.

My old classmates used to admire my beautiful handwriting so much, they gave me a nickname. So, I don't agree that lefties always have bad handwriting.

Definitely sounds like nonsense to me 😉

When I was in about pri 1, I could write with both hands. However, when speed became a concern (cannot dilly-dally) I started to lose the abilty to write with my right hand. When I was young, we used to have meals on round tables. So, it became a natural thing for me to hold my chopsticks with the right hand for practical reasons. Another practical thing that I do is to control my mouse with my right hand. I find that in this aspect, I am better off than those who can't cos I can write with my left hand and control the mouse with the right hand at the same time.

There's many things I have forgotten but surprisingly, I always have the image of my kindy teacher gently (and quietly) removing my pencil from my left hand and put it over to my right hand. I pretended to write with my right hand but once she walked away, I returned the pencil to my left hand... 😎 Strange that I always have this image and I wonder why...
