Frankly speaking, I am a bit disappointed with the boarding prog- No food preparation on the part of the kids! Their meals are all catered. I was hoping for some sort of Home Econs training :lol:

IMO there was nothing hard for my boy to do during his boarding. Only cleaned the room floor, use the washing machine to wash his clothes, clean his sch shoes with the magic sponge, absolutely simple tasks. Did I say I was disappointed

Isn't that more than what they do at home? I guess its also boarding not camp. My son's a Scout.He learned to cook, built a tent, sleep on the ground and start a fire during those camps and lots of team activities..I watch him grow and mature as he goes for these camps. I wld love to hv him continue as a Scout unfortunately NJC doesn't hv that option.

For boarding, I think it's more about self management, self discipline and building confidence. Being able to plan & manage yr school workload on yr own, get up on time, manage your own stuff and be involved in & contribute to grp activities at the same time ..it's a different set of skills they are developing. Perhaps less rigorous but certainly as important for lifeskills applicable in life.

my initial meaning of \"torture\" IS NOT relate to \"physical torture\" (these are common as she does help out at home)
is about psychological torture, emotional stress or missing each other kinda of feelings
anyway, i am rather surprise to read on this topic again as it was quite sometime since my last visit to this thread........ :roll:

I guess cooking is really not on the curriculum of NJC, leh. They don't even have home econs. haha.

LOL - don't think have.

oic....DHS does have home economics,(under life skill programme) but rather disappointing too,
as of last year, mainly theory, practical only few lessons

Some questions for NJC parents,

Is it a good idea to buy school uniform now before the 23rd Dec rush? Should I go with my son to the orientation on 23rd Dec to buy the school books? Or should I just pass him the money to get it himself. I am not sure how much to give him.

please advise.
