      Hi Trapwithin,

I didn't follow the earlier chats regarding class distribution...but if there is no longer 'Charity' for eg...the drive to spur on may not be as challenging as before. However, this may not necessarily be the case...bcos some kids will want to do well when their inner motivation matures for boys esp.

I don't know about the effects the new initiatives have on students, but this particular parent certainly switched his mind to cruise control when he found out that there is no streaming at end P1 :imcool: .

Of course still need to work lah, but at least now it's in cruising mode.

My son has been streamed since the end of P1 and up till now, he is working hard to 'maintain'...not even striking goals. This is the standard in Pei Hwa.
Although daughter is going to another school, I still believe in applying same method of teaching for her next year...ie 1 hour of studying during school holidays to keep the brain working...not too much right ? I've got several friends asking me, 'What ?? School holidays still need to do assessment book? Why ?'

I've given up explaining there is a need to keep the brain working...maybe school culture is diff or maybe parents' mentality is diff.

Hi, What about Pei Hwa’s PLSE results of 2010? Like how many 4A*? How many 260/250 above? Anybody know that?

        Thanks.

          Hi,Janet,
You are not alone in thinking like this. I think it is good to do some revision or learn something new (new academic topis) during the holiday. Like you said to keep the brain ticking/working. Infact, I think it is good as the child can learn at her pace and also let her think that that it is normal to learn. Of course, try to make the learning as enjoyable and relax as possible. (by giving stars award, lots of praises and her choices of outing) 😄

Yeah, we have been going to places on weekends and bringing the kids out for waffles, ice cream etc.
Son's teacher asked me to get him to read up his P3/4 Science before P5 starts. It's just so ridiculous that these 2 friends feel that assessment books during holidays are a no-no and keep emphasizing it.

Yup, school starts 4th Jan. 1st Jan falls on Saturday and so 3rd Jan is 'off' in lieu for those working 5 day week.

Keep on asking me what assessment books I have bought and tried and what holiday classes to attend, what I am going to 'do' to my dd. Ha, maybe your friends feel the stress that you are going thru' and want you to relax. If I say I am just doing nothing this holiday, my friends would be :!:

                      Hi comfy,

No stress lah…one hour a day compared to his few hours playing.
To them, they just feel that holidays should be holidays…no work but just play. Won’t the kids suffer when school reopens ? One hour of work (maybe less) followed by marking it and then explaining the mistakes to him…after that either play or go out. Where got stress ?
