I am looking for creative writing for my son whom is going P4 next year.

We live in the east, preferably in Tampines/Simei or Pasir Ris.

      Please recommend.

      Thanks.

I stay in PR also, find it hard to find. I have tried I-creative learner, they are home based but limited seats. Kent Ridge at White Sand, they only have creative writing from P4 onward. Winnie is the teacher, she is a script writer, quite impressive right. My kid is only P3 so cant join them.

Ya, i have difficulty find creative writing in the east too.

Have any of you tried of The Alternative Story ctr? If yes, how is your child coping with it. Appreciated, if you can share.

      Hi,

My child is at The Alternative Story, we joined not too long ago, about a month..can't say much about results improvement cos only been a month here but we like it a lot. The teacher is very engaging and my child whose attention span is quite short can focus and learn for 2 hours and he comes back always excited to share what he learns. I notice that his resistance to doing Compre and Compo is less too.

In the past, he would drag his feet to complete a compo or compre but now he is quite excited to do one. What impresses me is how the teacher has managed to instill in him this enthusiasm...

I feel that the teachers really believe in the kids too and they always seem very happy to see them. When my boy first went, the teacher told the others that he was new and to welcome him into the class too....I was touched by this gesture as teachers would usually focus on the teaching part and not the emotions of the kids but the teacher understood that the child being new would feel a bit out of place. So overall I am very happy with The Alternative Story.

The Yishun branch is moving to AMK early next year. They also rent rooms to teach in the East in Singapore Post Centre (Paya Lebar MRT, I think). You can contact them directly to check.

I have checked the website schedule for Singapore post Centre. They do not have class for P4 level.

                    Hi yismom,

I stay in Yishun as well, recently, my friend recommended me to a tuition place, seems like they use quite good strategies to teach and my kid loves the lessons, he seems to be improving too. I can pass you the contacts if you want.
                    Hi Chloe,

I am interested in the contacts too. Please pm me.

                    Thanks

My P3 kid’s english is not good, he loses a lot of marks on show & tell , compo & oral. He managed to score 80 plus for paper 2. I have sent him to the following enrichment centres before. Below are my findings:

Morris Allan - attended 2 terms in P1, all native teachers. Encourage reading, speaking…This is where he cultivates his interest in reading (previously he dont like to read story books at all, now at least he read some) Withdrew him as found they don’t really go with MOE syllabus & worksheets are pretty easy.

L Central - attended in P2, all native teachers. Small class sz & claimed to build the kids confidence in speaking up & present themselves.
On top of this, I’ve sent him to a creative writing class but later found that if he doesn’t know how to construct a proper story, no point learning the phrases now.

My child is quite & shy, don’t like to speak up or present himself.
Thinking of switching him to other centres, any suggestions.
Did anyone get your kids 1 to 1 tutor for English?

my kids tried similar class with emphasis on drama and expresssing themselves but found that even though they do enjoy but it does not show in grades as difficulty level is not there.. also tried chinese program that is drama and interaction base as my kids chinese is very poor so i wanted to encourage them to speak more. i pull them out of these class and then do one-to-one as more focussed and easier for them to communicate as they wont feel pressure from frens, especially when they are higher levels and need more challenge. just need to get the right tutor who can motivates and click. i found good tutors a few years ago and stick with them. so far kids are excelling better and enjoy the class as the way of teaching is different and helpful ... example for english the tutor emphasise stories and expression, interaction that is challenging and they enjoy it.. in maths also tutor can have more higher level sums to suit to the child as no need to hold back by class. in my boy psle he manage to get quite good score, A and 2 A* but sadly chinese pull him down ... only manage a C 😞 i think his interest is not there for chinese too... my opinion is that one-to-one is better as no distraction from frens.

good luck for the new school year!!!
