Hello everyone. My kid will be attending P1 next year and I need to understand the CCA situation better cos I didn’t quite catch what the principle was saying and the infopack didn’t give enough info… so here goes… 😎

      Is aesthetics CCA mandatory?
I emailed the private coordintor for the Band CCA and he mentioned practice will be 2-3.30pm. How are P1 kids going to take care of themselves for lunch, etc?
What if CCA bus doesn’t have the bt merah route?
CCA seems like quite a hassle… esp for kids so young… can he not sign up for any CCA during P1/P2 at all?

        JonC:
CH has a long history (I really mean history as some of the old boys are already father or even grandfather) for being strong in maths.

I think so too.. my dad is now nearly 70 and his maths has always been good, my maths is not shabby too (As at 'O' and 'A' levels)..

er.. no leh.. tables were set up for registration at orientation and aesthetics CCA form was also in the infopack.. we heard the principal use the word 'mandatory' .. that's why we're a little confused.. and the Band screening is on 1st day of school at 2pm!

Btw, my son likes to learn piano so we chose band..

Yeah, my son was one of those performing at the p1 orientation, but for Chinese orch. Did they say it's compulsory? Both my elder boys did start CCA in p1, but not until the last term of p1, and they never did say it's compulsory at all.

I would go at lunchtime to make sure they have their lunch before running off for CCA, usually. But when they got used to getting their own lunch, it was great. Free after-school care 2 to 3 times a week until 4 or 5pm.

Not must take but rather the kids are \"auditioned\" to \"discover\" their talent. Usually for aesthetics and sports cca. Certain cca if don't take from p1, very hard to join in later. Like sports.

My ds1 got consent forms for strings n wushu. He took chess at p1 and switch to strings at p3. Ds2 got basketball form at p1. He also got strings form but did not join. In the meantime, basketball also reduce membership. I think it's to train feeder players for sch team even at p2. Not sure if still got casual membership. There is cca bus. Used to be pay $5 per trip. Not sure how much now. Ds1 took to somewhere near united sq.

They are like \"auditioned\" almost every year, aren't they? I remember my boys were even offered Dance & Choir, even though they already had their own CCAs. My younger boy was even sent for Band trials with his fellow p1 classmates and when the instructor saw them, sent them all away saying \"why you all *boh-geh* but your teacher send you for band trial?\" haha. *boh-geh* cannot play most of the instruments that need blowing.

Yah - being able to play piano - not much \"market-value\" in school CCAs, unless there is a piano ensemble. But very few schools have that.
