2011 P1 Registration Exercise for 2012 In-Take

Sorry to bother, but getting stressed out now over which primary school to put my DS in next year. I want to put him in the most suitable school for him but I really don't know how to assess that, i.e., whether he'll be able to cope academically in a good school or will he be underchallenged or his full potential not being brought out if not in a 'branded'/top school.


If you could choose between Henry Park or Fairfield Methodist (very good chance of getting into either school), which one would you go for?
DH and I were not old boy/girl so no direct experience in these 2 schools and not sure which school to go for.

My choice would be Fairfield. To me, it's simple - Fairfield is affiliated to a secondary school and subsequently to a JC, so if my child is mediocre in his/her studies, I won't feel so stressed out.

Henry Park, while good, is not affiliated to any secondary school so my child would have to work very hard at PSLE.

And Fairfield has the plus of being a Christian school that would also teach Christian values - important criteria for me.

So it depends on your situation, what you look for in a school, your chances of getting in, how far you live from the schools etc. Good luck!

I would choose Fairfield Methodist too. Reason is simple...Fairfield has an affiliated secondary school and it will help a lot with the lower COP (cut off point). So my child won't have to compete with other kids for a place...esp with tougher PSLE standards now. It's very stressful if my child is an average student and there is no affiliated sec school.

what would u parents recommend if i qualify for both maris stella n cath hi at 2b, but for cath hi, i stay wifin 1km but very tough ballotg, for maris i hv to ballot for outside 2km , higher chance but still hv to ballot?


both are boy sch, cath sch, hv affiliated sec sch, sap sch.
except maris COP for own students is lower than cath hi COP for outside students. my boy is not quite academically inclined type

i m thinkg of shiftg near 1km of maris but property so ex.

If you have a higher chance at Maris Stella, also have affiliated sec school, why don't you go for it ? Personally, I would go for a safer choice.

if i go for maris, to ensure no balloting at all, i would hv to shift house but not sure to be within 1m or 1-2km cos not many houses within 1km. 1-2km more houses but also means less chance and more risk.

Property prices have soared...regardless of district.
Staying within 1km would be safer...Maris Stella is in Bartley. Any balloting required this year ?

I'd shift within 1km of MS if I could, to have the surest chance. But if that is not a possibility, then I'll monitor my chances in both schools before making a decision, since it's in the same phase. You never know, you might get lucky.

And I would keep a third choice like St Gabriel at the back of my mind just in case. St. Gab is also all-boys, also Catholic, not too far from Bishan (where I assume you are living) and it has an affiliated secondary school too, if all else fails.

My youngest is registering next year. No hoo ha for us but I’ve 2 good pals who are registering so it’s really exciting.
