2009 P1 Registration Exercise for 2010 In-Take

Do most KS parents chiong only at the last half hour or so? Isn't it dangerous in case there is a breakdown in the computer system blah blah (acts of god) and you miss the deadline? Or if there are so many parents who are like-minded...won't there be a queue close to deadline and by the time it's your turn...it's past the deadline? :?

KSP:
I know I can only apply 1 sch in any phase, what I mean is, if we qualify for 2B for BOTH schs, but in case if the 1st sch we want require balloting for <1km, can we jump ship to proceed to 2nd sch (since 2nd sch no need balloting) on the same or next day?
You only can apply to 1 school in any phase. The 2 days are opened for phase 2B registration. After the phase 2B is closed if the number of applicants is lesser than the vacancies, all students will get in. If more, then balloting is conducted in a few days after phase 2B is closed. After that will be phase 2C.smurf:
Thanks Miracle Child!
can we try balloting at the more popular school (we are balloting at >2km)) 1st on the 1st day and then if cannot get a place, the other parent will register at the 2nd choice school?
workable?? :? -
School P1 registration is still very manual. You only know the number of applicants in that school when you are there. There is no real time update on the screen (not like stock market) or something like that. The numbers will probably written on the whiteboard by parent volenteers (hopefully not those on the same registration).
An example in a school with following scenario of the 50 seats available for 2B
within 1km - 20 applicants - all get in.
1-2km - 35 applicants, need to ballot (there will be 5 disapponted parents)
2km - no chance (try another schools).
One will know the chance based on the distance of address. The lesser the seat available the more critical is the distance. -

But depending at the time you apply, the number keeps on running. You will know the number on the whiteboard whether you need to balot or not, you may or may not want to apply. Not sure I get your question right.........

But there is a risk if you only based on the 1st day number because there may be many last minutes parents coming in and you are not aware if you are not there to see at last minute. -

if you have 2 choices in Phase 2B, you should opt for the one that you have better chance of getting into. for some hot schools, you'll know whether need to ballot even before the closing date of Phase 2B. in this case, you can withdraw from Sch A and register in Sch B as long as Phase 2B registration is still ongoing. But for some schools, you won't know if there is balloting until after they tallied the results after the registration date has closed. in such case, you cannot jump ship as the registration phase is already closed.
clear?

hmm...say if my 1st sch need balloting at even <1km (actually it's cath high lah)...but I stay darn far, definitely >2km...so if I join the balloting group (for >2km) and didn't manage to get a seat...can I quickly jump ship on the same day to another sch??? or the result will come out at the same time same day?
ah, this thing is making me headache man! :stupid: -

anyway, all balloting will only be carried out after the phase registration is closed. does that answer your questions? however despite that, depends on the take up rate DURING registration, sometimes, it is already clear if balloting is needed for that particular phase (ie for 50seats vacancies, already have 60 applicants staying within 1km), even before actual balloting takes place (ie after registration is CLOSED).
and if sch A already need balloting for <1km, you staying at more than 2km will not even get to ballot...cos since places already insufficient for those staying less than 1km where got vacancies left for those more than 1km? -
hi,
need some advise…between nan chiau & maris stella…which school is better
I’m staying near nan chiau (less than 1 km) but my husband was tinking to let my son enter maris stella cos can go to their secondary as welll but we have some concern on the travel distance fm SK to maris stella… -
Hi Jedamum,
sorry, didn't read your post properly. haha.thanks for the detailed explanation.

actually hor, I think if a child enter an affliated sch, doesn't mean he can 'promote' to affiliated sec sch. it depends on the PSLE results. being affliated only mean it is easier but not guaranteed.
