Left Hander- how to correct?

I am a left-hander, so is my hubby. However, only our youngest son is a leftie. I remember a research that reported that, the older the mother when she gives birth, the higher the chance her child is a leftie. Interesting. So far, this has proven to be correct based on my own experience - my mum is a leftie and when she gave birth to my younger bro and I, she was much older and my younger bro and I are lefties thou' our older siblings are right-handed. As for my hubby, he is the youngest and he is the only leftie in his family. And now, only my youngest is a leftie.
My old classmates used to admire my beautiful handwriting so much, they gave me a nickname. So, I don't agree that lefties always have bad handwriting.taslyn:
Definitely sounds like nonsense to me...but not so good for gers - boys get very far ahead in life being lefties while gers lag behind...
When I was in about pri 1, I could write with both hands. However, when speed became a concern (cannot dilly-dally) I started to lose the abilty to write with my right hand. When I was young, we used to have meals on round tables. So, it became a natural thing for me to hold my chopsticks with the right hand for practical reasons. Another practical thing that I do is to control my mouse with my right hand. I find that in this aspect, I am better off than those who can't cos I can write with my left hand and control the mouse with the right hand at the same time.
There's many things I have forgotten but surprisingly, I always have the image of my kindy teacher gently (and quietly) removing my pencil from my left hand and put it over to my right hand. I pretended to write with my right hand but once she walked away, I returned the pencil to my left hand...
Strange that I always have this image and I wonder why...

Hi, JHJC. Both my hubby and me are right handed. Among my triplets, I have a set of identical twins. My identical twins are actually opposite in almost everything - 1 leftie and 1 rightie. The leftie is a perfectionst while the rightie is easy-going (so easy-going that at 4 y.o, he don't care even the slippers are worn on the wrong side!).... and many countless opposites....
Now, I don't correct my leftie for many reasons. First, I am too busy (or lazy) to go against nature. Secondly, when they are 3 y.o, I tried to get his childcare teacher to support me but unfortunately she is a leftie too and had went thru the pain of being forced to use right hand (she still using left hand to write). I also found that his dominant eye is left eye. Finally, the most impt is that being a perfectionist, he is frustrated when he can't achieve nice handwriting. With his left hand, he writes beautifully. So, I think it is better to leave him as it is.

Well, isn't it good enough? Higher chance doesn't mean 100% chance. Remember that lefties are still the minority. Anyway, just take info/statistics from research papers as a pinch of salt, as a wise gynae told me before, when an incident happens to you, it's either 1 or 0, nothing in between.Picolo:

Did you manage to find out what is the riffle model for leftie? My hubby say it is more prone to injuries than those for right-hand ones. Hopefully, 13 years later, the technology for leftie is as good.

Hmmm perhaps by the time your son goes to NS... They shd have come out with SAR210 already lar which hopefully would have fixed this prob

Anyway depending which vocation they go to... May not need to touch the rifle at all... Most active servicemen will only get to go for live firing perhaps once or twice during their active service? Then perhaps a few more times during reservist, in my 10 years reservist cycle only went for range twice so far... Even then I wouldnt change their natural tendencies just so that they can handle rifles. IMO.

Hi, DS2 looks like a leftie too.
His basic instinct is to use his left to do all the feeding and writing. When he’s tired with the left, he switches to use his right hand. -

Unfortunately the trend appears to be heading towards bull-pup design assault weapons, which generally pose greater problems for lefties than standard design rifles. Still, as you say, I wouldn't change handedness of my child just for that. Would be a shame though, had gotten some trophies and awards in my time for marksmanship, shooting lefthanded. If my boy is left master eye too, it would be tricky.
