Would like to know the formula as I am very poor in Maths.

What is the average score for each subject (total 4 subjects) if one scored 230/300 for PSLE?

      TIA.

There is no maximum score for PSLE. But the average score would be 57.5 for 230/4.

Thanks for the reply but I am not looking at the max score. I just wanted to know how to calculate the individual subject score (ave) if the PSLE score is eg 230/300. Well you see, per subj is over 100, so for 4 subj would be 400 but for PSLE agg score is 300. So I would like to know what is the formula for deriving the ave score for the individual subj base on an agg of 230/300. Thank y ou.

PSLE T-score is the sum of T-score for each of the 4 subjects, and T-score for each subject is computed as 50+10*(Your Raw Score-Mean Score)/Std Deviation. For a T-score of 230, the average T-score is just 57.5. There is no way to know the average raw score without knowing the mean score and SD for those subjects. In other words, 230 is just a relative score which indicates how one person performs relative to his cohort in the PSLE exam. Hope this answers your question.

              Oh my ...!

Those who score 100 for math will get a T-score of 91.

Those who score 100 for science (near impossible) will only get a T-score of 77.5

100 in English (another impossible case) the T-score will be 74.5

100 in Chinese (for PRC) the T-score will be 72.

I hope you will now understand why I have made so much noise regarding the Math paper. There will be at least 50 pupils out there who get 100 for math, enjoying a disproportionate jump in their T-score.

Anyway, MOE will sure have to moderate the marks. Otherwise the top student will have an aggregate T-score of over 300 (a new record)

              Hi atutor2001,

Thought max possible T-score is 75.

the maximum 300 t-score is not divided into 4 for 4 subjects.

The aggregate score has no maximum. It is the sum of the t-scores for the 4 subjects, each of which is calculated separately based on the statistical distribution for that subject. The reason it isn't likely to go above 300 is that the population is very large.

I would suggest read thru' the thread to understand how T-Score is computed and the computation formula. With only a raw score (your marks) at hand, there is no way to compute the T-Score as you will need the cohort Mean and Standard Deviation to get the \"normalization\".
