I was just wondering, but any idea why pupils with 262 or 263 cannot get into RI with appeal even though the COP is 259?

we often forget that schools like RI / HCI are independent schools - which means they can decide their admission policy on their own.

if these unfortunate 262 / 263 were to have submitted under S1 posting (i.e. without prior acceptance of any DSA offers) - they would certainly be in the school.

NOW I AM GUESSING - the school probably told MOE how many vacancies are available under S1 and thus the last one to get in was 259. As for those who appealed (with DSA offers from elsewhere) and got in - they are probably offered the places reserved under DSA but not filled up during DSA. But unfortunately there aren't enough \"reserve\" places to cater to all the appeals above 259. Those who got 263 and successful under appeal have probably done better at the GAT / DSA selection test than those not successful.

Based on the name list, RI has 452 Year 1 students this year

Could it be because they appeal too late, whence most vacancies have been given out? Those 262, 263 acceptance cases appeal immediately after receiving PSLE result?

personally know of one case on 263 appealed on PSLE result day - same afternoon - and received successful reply only on 23 Dec the registration day 4pm. another case was around 27+, got reply almost the next day (30 Nov) after appeal submission.

based on this, it is believed that the appeals are ranked by merit, not by first come first served

I believed the GAT performance played a part in the appeal for score 260 - 265.
So far those that I personally known of appealed successfully - all cleared the GAT and gone into the second round domain test during DSA. A few that appealed after S1 posting score in the same range all unsuccessful.

Thus I am seriously not sure how the school decides. Of course there should be little doubt that GEP students who scored above the COP will most likely be given the benefits. Probably same for the very outstanding sportsboys whose result are closed (i.e. -1 / -2 points) to the COP.

Beyond that, I find it hard to understand why so many of the boys whose score are clearly above the COP, tried though not successful with RI DSA, did not managed to get through via appeal.

Also, if the entry by one of the KSP that a boy whose t-score is 239 managed to get into RI, then I think the school is really not doing anyone any favour. I remember MM Lee mentioned that PSLE is supposed to help level the playing ground for everyone. But if advantage is given to the ORA / guanxi... then this will be so inappropriate and unfair to many of the RI-wannbe boys who worked hard...

ksasalways, now I remember your case. When did you submit your appeal?

perhaps after RI informed MOE on the number of places available for S1 posting … there was a judgement error on how many would appeal with t-scores higher than the COP…which in turn would not have been known till the S1 posting is done. chicken or egg ?

those just managed to get in RI at the COP or just above it or just below those DSA-appeal cases (& could not get it), are truly lucky !

Is there anyone here living around Greenwood? Bus company quoted me $150! I refuse to be ripped off so I’m sending him to school. He may take the public bus too. Anyone whose son is in 1I?

you have a direct bus, SBS 157, very convenient, and very fast as there is hardly any stopping along Lornie Road

another direct bus is 156 but it goes via Whitley Road and will take a longer time

                        forget about school bus
