chasingjelly - usually the lower primary top CL class has kids with 96 marks and above. but CL10 should also be considered a very good class. which class is your dd in?

        if anyone is interested:

out of the top 41 pupils who scored 250 & above in the 2010 PSLE, 19 are from class 6H and 17 are from 6I. (this means top pupils from P5 are likely grouped into 2 classes in P6, which should have around 60 pupils in total?)

11 in 6H scored 260 and above, which is the COP of RGS.

        8 in 6I scored likewise.

3 from each class scored 263 and above, which is the COP of Nanyang Girls’.

Personally, I would be interested if the school publishes the scores of children at different level. Eg. how many % scored 200 & below, 210 & above, 220 & above, 230 & above, 240 & above, 250 & above, 260 & above, From there we can have a good view of what average students would be able to score and what does most students ended up having.

Such data are not difficult to gather/ compile but the school probably finds it sensitive to reveal ?

I think this would interest me more than the top scorers to see how the school can ensure average students does well enough to get into decent secondary school as well.

Eg. some top schools claimed that 50% of their cohort score 240 & above. Just an example as I cannot remember the exact % and score. I think that is probably more impressive.

adbie - nice to meet you here! finally found a parent of my boy’s classmate after one year. haha. do you have other kid(s) studying other level in mbs?

if all had read the mbs newsletter brought home by the kids yesterday, you would know that there is only 1 best class each for p3 & p4 whereas there are 2 each in p5 & p6.

no need to be bothered too much by this actually since it all depends on our kids’ own performance, if they are good enough they will get in. it’s not easy to be in the best class honestly, the expectation/ pressure that the kids need to meet/ cope can be tremendous.

mmm - nice to see you here again! hope your trip was good. i would like that type of analysis which you prefer too. may be we can feedback to the school though it’s quite unlikely they would accede to our request. go visit taonan website, they reveal a little more as in the top score for each of their p6 classes.

lostbunny - i thought it is the norm for the form teacher to take eng & maths unless he/she is a chinese teacher.

so far, it is the case for my p2 boy. in fact, he only gets 3 teachers this year, one taking chinese, moral education and music, the 2nd taking art and the form teacher taking all the remaining subjects.

my p4 boy’s form teachers in p1 & p3 were also the case except p2 where his form teacher only taught him eng.

7788, my DS has 3 different teachers for the 3 core subjects when he was in P1 as the FT is the chinese teacher.

My girl during P3, her form teacher only teach civic and moral ed. So form teacher only teach/see the class once a week. So during parent-teacher meeting, only the maths teacher is able to answer parents since she sees the class everyday.

                      blurblursahm,

Last year I was also secretly very happy cos DS had a very strict English teacher. Becos the teacher was very strict with the handwriting, DS' handwriting improved tremendously within a few months. Everytime he had to do English homework, he was very conscious of the need to write neatly else will get scolding from the teacher. But because he was so conscious about writing neatly, the teacher feedback to us during the parent-teacher meeting that my DS writes too slowly 😛
