      INNOVATE:

At jc level, some have higher retainees' rate as high as up to 10%.

For those deem unsuitable for jc education, they either transfer to poly or told to leave. The latter is a last resort after given another chance to sit for the easier supplementary exam.

yes, i also heard of higher retainees' rate at JC level.
wonder under what circumstances / situations would the JCs disallow pupils to retain at JC1.

I shall attempt to answer your query in general as each jc has its own internal policy.

Firstly, have to outline the general profile of jc students:

1 Top jcs and IP schools- IP students and nation's top 0-level cohort.
      2. Secont tier-jcs - High ability 0-level cohort with L1R5 of 12 or
better. This is the group our polys are actively
pursuing by offering them with scholarships.
      3. Third tier-jcs - Comprising of good 0-level scorers at the top
and a minimum mean grade of B3 forming the
      bottom.

I have also noticed that over the recent years, the standards of promos set mainly by our top 2nd tier jcs are of equivalent standards with the likes of RI and HCI. Even amongst the bottom tier jcs, the standards set are at least equivalent to our A-level which itself is of higher standard than Cambridge A-level. This explains why there is such high failure rate in certain jcs.

      Criteria for promotion to jc2- 2H2 + 1H1 passes

In certain jcs, as high as up to 40% are unable to make the passing grade due to reasons outlined above. After advancing the border-line failures, up to 30% are asked to take the easier supplementary exam. In DHS, all who failed have to resit for all the papers over again. In this instance, repeat students are asked to leave the jcs.

Only when all other avenues have been exhausted do jcs ask students to leave for poly education. The following are those that fall under such rare circumstances:

      1. Repeat students who failed promos on second attempt.
      2. Students who failed badly in the easier supplementary exam and who are deemed totally unsuitable for jc education are advised to go to polys.
      3. Malpractices.

All in all, the standards demand by our jcs are indeed demanding.

            Hi all,

Anyone know if NJC takes in sec 2 / sec 3 pupils ? Wondering what is the chance for ds to request for transfer to NJC in sec 2 / sec 3.

            Thank you..

NJC used to do official intakes at Year 3 into their IP programme. They stopped this in 2009 I believe. I would think that transfers are still possible provided there are vacancies available.

            Thank you!

Am i right to say, all will be given first choice school first if they meet the COP. Then all the remaining student who missed by first choice will be lined in straight line again to check if their second choice school still have vacancy?

So am I right to say that you were posted to St Nic then later transferred to Nan Hua and in between you were appealing to get into RVH? Whoa, your result must be good that you can get a transfer and at the same time do the appeal to get into RVH!

                      Hi Augmum,

How useful is cca point in IP school?
My DD is in DHS also, she told me unless cca v gd o'wise nt much help in result.
Haha, actually, I also not very sure abt it, prob some others forummers may wanna to give more details.
btw, i dun quite get when u said โ€œotherwise, not much help in resultโ€ what result ??

I think it shd come in useful for uni enrolment, uni faculty's interviews and scholarship applications,
shd the applicant has a good CCA track record with leadership qualities (means ranking in CCA is impt) and also the accomplished CIP hrs.
esp for the application of popular courses.
