NUSHS 90% intake is strictly via DSA meant their requirements are extremely stringent, and their tests (both the GAT and Science Camp ) are extremely intense and decisive. It is like a mini-GEP seeking out those \"math-\" and \"science-\" oriented kids from those who just read up and prepared well for the test.

Every test has it objective and criteria. The PSLE testing/ T-score has its own criteria and objectives. i.e to assess readiness for secondary school, and the T-score ranking for purpose of school placement. A High T-score meant good preparation in all areas, most importantly in MT which distinguish the high 260s and 270s from the 250s/ 240S.

I remember someone in NUSHS (during open house) once said that a high T-score for someone who didn't take the NUSH Admission test does'nt necessarily mean he/she is better or suitable than someone who had a lower T-score (may be due to poorer MT and other reason ) but has been selected via NUSH DSA process. I knew of a few of my DD GEP classmates who scored very impressive T-scores but they were not even offered CO or wait-list in NUSHS during DSA period.

Hi matadorepy, i can tell that you know this school very well and liked the way you handle questions.

I am new here and from HK, staying in Spore for 4years only. My girl is very interested in NUS High. We have heard of this school while in HK, that part of the reason why i choose to come here with my husband. Can study here, in future, if my kids is interested in major in economics, can she specialise in this field at yr 5 or 6?

To my knowledge, there is a small percentage (abt 10%) of foreign students ( notably more koreans, Japanese, Indonesian and Malaysian) in this year intake. My DD told me of one Malaysian classmate who crosses the JB causeway every morning to school !!!

I assume your DD is considering Y1 entry. 90% Entry for Y1 is entirely through DSA , hence to get in is by no mean easy. 2 rounds of testing same for all (although some claimed that olympiad winners have automatic entry which I doubt ). Yes, NUSHS is hard core Maths n Science but they do have option to take another major like Econs, Literature (hardly anybody), Music, Art etc.

But if she is interested in Econs, then she has many other easier choices of IP school than NUSHS ? Is it becos no national exam ? :?

Thank you. Yes, part of it, no national exam and she is strong in math n science. Languages, we are from HK, so weak. The main reason is that i was hoping that in case in yr 5 or 6, she wanted to switched to major in Economics at least there is another option for her. Actually, pardon me, as i am still very new, what did NUS high really wanted to train this group of student to become? My girl is in p4 only, so only next yr, than i can attend the talks organised by nus high, right?
