My girl just started in Maha Bodhi. She's in 1E.

My girl sounded blur blur when I asked her about school. Good to have other parents to check with.

          blurblursahm,

mrs annie teo is quite a nice and caring teacher and was my elder boy’s p2 form teacher. she taught him english. she would give us her hp no to facilitate communication.

hope you have got to know some of your girl’s classmates’ parents and exchanged contacts during the first few days of school last week. then anything can cross-check among parents rather than go to the teachers as the teachers can be busy, so try not to bother them unnecessarily.

teachers have to be strict or it can be very difficult to enforce discipline.

adbie - i have pmed you.

            Hi 7788,

I fully agree with you on this. While some new age parents might feel that strict/ fierce teachers are passe, I personally pray that my kids will get those teachers. With those teachers, we usually see results as kids are less likely to daydream and are conscious of their behaviour and will work harder.

Eg. P1 level manager Ms Lim. My ds had her as his teacher during P1. She appeared to be fierce and strict (with bionic eyes and ears to the kids) that the P1 and P2 kids fear, but she is a very nice person.

Really that's a pity. But I also observed alot of retired teachers still working on contract basis.

I still see my P5 and P6 maths teacher around 😉 What about Mr Lam?

adbie - nice to meet you here! finally found a parent of my boy's classmate after one year. haha. do you have other kid(s) studying other level in mbs?

if all had read the mbs newsletter brought home by the kids yesterday, you would know that there is only 1 best class each for p3 & p4 whereas there are 2 each in p5 & p6.

no need to be bothered too much by this actually since it all depends on our kids' own performance, if they are good enough they will get in. it's not easy to be in the best class honestly, the expectation/ pressure that the kids need to meet/ cope can be tremendous.
yes i have another kid, but she'll start P1 two years later. 🙂

thanks for reminding me about the newsletter. i re-read it again and found i had actually missed that part on the banding.

based on the number of classes in each level, are the classes in P3/P4 larger? by my calculations, it seems P1,2,5,6 classes are about 30 each, while P3,4 are 40 each.

thanks for the advice on managing expectations. to be honest, i hope my dd can make it to the top class, but i won't put \"tremendous\" pressure on her. she's already too relaxed about her schoolwork and i'm now a little worried. i remember as a kid i was definitely more kiasu than her now. 🙂

Miss Lim is now the P2 level manager. I fully agree that she appears to be fierce but she is a really nice lady. Approachable and helpful.
