My girl spent 1.5hr on homework this weekend, including colorings. And I can see the progress quite fast, only 3 day in school, 9 pages of books already covered. I hope she will be able to keep up.


This morning I told her her to pack her own bag for I was really frustrated. The info I got from her and from the timetable is contradicting. So if she's scolded by teacher today for bring the wrong books, let it be. Then hopefully next time she will be able to remember or note down more clearing.

Wondering whether teachers can just write down on board (also ask kid to copy) what need to bring the next day for the first two weeks? It will be very helpful if they do that.

And DD kept on mentioning A4 size drawing book... what is that? We only have A3 size in our stock.

It depends on your ds/dd class teacher. For my boy, in his P1, his form/chinese teachers will write down all the homework(including parent's signatory..bring art folder....etc) on the board for that day and each student will need to copy it onto their student handbook. As the handbook is not ready during the first few weeks, your kid will write it in the small notebook(this is in his P2 booklist this year, unsure if P1 have this) temporary until he/she receives their handbook.

For art lesson, P1 normally uses A4 size drawing block(same size as our writing paper, popular and their bookstore selling). I have the same problem as you last year as the bookstore despatch A3 size for me and I have to go and buy the smaller A4 drawing board.

Eh… I forgot to mention the 1.5 hrs also included time spent in toilet, drinking water and day dreaming… however, it is still quiet a lot to me. If I remember correctly she did math worksheets, quite some pages in the book… and for CL, it is just coloring…not sure whether there is EL homework though… must have… but can’t seem to recall. oh yah, CL requires them to read text book out loud several times and DD did that too.

PE attire - Did all of you sew on the name tag as well?


ululu - I think thats how our kids are copying into the notebook now right? Teacher write on the board and they write in their notebook? Tell you hor, my DS brought home his classmate’s notebook by mistake on Fri! I do not know who is the parent or classmate so can only remind DS to return to her today and apologize, can imagine how anxious that parent is. But i saw the things in the classmate’s notebook were exactly the same as what is in DS’ notebook, so should be copied down. But, I do hope the teachers check everyone’s notebook after copying to ensure they copied right and complete.

Need to buy A4 drawing block, I was in school last week and saw a kid buying from bookshop also. Dont know why booklist asks us to buy A3, I bought in Popular yesterday. You can buy by Wed coz Art class is on Thu. And, need to buy one more English file (think its the red one) but bookshop is now out of stock till further notice. Also, the reinforcement rings requested by Chinese teacher.

1C was given homework for all 3 subjects, EL is some worksheets and spelling on this Thu, CL is the huo dong beng - draw lines, patterns and coloring only (I was confused coz DS took down as zuo ye in his notebook, only zuo ye ben is the yun yu one. But huo dong ben got parents’ signature chop so i guessed its that book but DS insisted its the yun yu one so i told him to do both in the end! :p), Maths is the activitity book. And, CL got pre-reading and post-reading. Faintz! Took me 2 hours to decipher and got him to finish all + learn spelling!

kitbest - 1C students was given a small blue notebook each to take down notes till the school’s comm book is ready for distributing.

I am so thankful we have a place to exchange points and complain here! Everyday also stressed about what is in the school bag … heh! Wonder how they coped with recess today, first day to buy food on their own!

Yes, I sew name tag on PE attire as well.

I went to the sch bookshop this afternoon to buy the yellow files (dec out of stock), A4 drawing block and other stationaries that we didn't buy previously. Actually, the booklist specified A4 drawing block. Wonder why the bookshop give A3 to you all in the pre-packed box. Anyway, I buy only as and when it is needed and didn't get the pre-packed one.

Then I took the opportunity to go and peek at my DSs. So unlucky, 1H is empty! Wonder where they go for EL? Teacher at 1E is giving them instruction on what to bring the next day! Finally, the puzzle is solved. The teacher actually write on the transparency and had the list projected for everyone to copy. No wonder no matter how we ask, our darlings just dont know how to tell us. They won't know what is projector and transpancy lah.

I didn't stay till recess time as I have packed snacks for my DSs. Anyway, I was told that parent volunteers and prefects who stay nearby will go and help out during the recess. So, should b ok. For my case, I just worry my DSs lose the money or buy junk-food.

Yes, now I recalled what's the EL homework, practice the spelling of those underlined words!!!!... ooops I don't think DD did that.... coz there is no so-called worksheet....but a list only. haiz.... will get her to do it tonight.

Last night’s comm book indicated can exchange the A3 drawing block with A4 size, bookshop gave wrongly. Btw, did your DS receive a letter informing about swim class yesterday?

My DS was very tired yesterday, abit grouchy when doing HW. I had to quickly get him to finish and send him to bed.
