My boy P1 this year so probably I am quite out of touch with academic n cca developments. The schools now may have placed greater emphasis in cca. I remember during my time, we only need to attend eca once a week

Does p1 need to attend 2x a week too? My p6 ds2 is in Chinese orch and has been since 4th term of p1 and he only needed to attend 1x/week back then. But yeah, most performing arts ccas have 2x/week schedule.

My ds was offered and joined Choir in P1 term 3. He had practices twice a week coz they were preparing for their anniversary performance.

Then he switched to CO in term 4 coz he actually wanted to join CO. It was once a week for junior boys but twice a week for senior boys. However, this year, they are doing twice a week for all levels coz preparing for next year’s SYF competition. And yes, it’s sectional plus combined.

For MOE guide, CCA is about 4hr per week, even for secondary school. But that is only a guide as we know some CCAs would definitely need more time a week, or have seasonal increase in practices before competiton.

I heard that some of his classmates are doing 2 CCAs!! So at least 3 days a week in school!!

SYF year used to be around 3x/week for afternoons and 3x/week for morning practices, i think. In 2006 syf, it was 5x/week for morning practices!

Yes, they are doing 2x a week now and probably 1 of the mornings too very soon ... and it's still more than 1 year away from SYF!

Thanks for giving me the heads-up ... I'll brace myself for the busy season next year to give full support to poor ds! :?:

That means teachers will monitor those pupils without CCAs and offered them some choices, right? Does he need to go for audition? When he switched to CO, how do you actually do the resignation and sign up?

BTW, does anyone know if the school will order another batch of the 75 years anniversary T shirt? Seems like it is popular and highly sought after. The boys look smart with the collar t shirt and great choice if they have to stay back for CCAs days. :celebrate:

P1 will be given CCA option forms somewhere in May for them to sign up if interested. It's optional for P1 but good to give them a try. My ds actually signed up for CO and was accepted by CO teacher. Then another letter came from Choir to say that he cleared audition so invited to join Choir. I suppose they check their voices out during music lessons and did their selection from there. I agreed, so decided to let him join Choir to gain stage experience coz they were performing in end term 3.

From what I know, some sports will also do observation and selection during PE lessons to check on ball sense, coordination etc. Apparently ds not good at balls, so he's not in any sports.

End term 3, ds still thinking about CO although he was fine with Choir too. So I email to FT to ask about changing procedures. She asked me for a letter of withdrawal and helped me forwarded to Choir teacher, then send him over to CO. I suppose you can also email directly to their Subject Head CCA.

At P1, still ok to go without CCA. DS just started P2 so I'm not sure what happen to those without CCA. :?

Last year already had 2nd round of order due to popular demand and they said that it would be the last round of order! My ds loves it so I bought 2. I let him wear it on CCA days so that he'll remember that when he's wearing that collar shirt, he has CCA on and is not suppose to go to his school bus! haha! He had forgotten before, so we came up with this \" special reminder\"!

I think they look smarter in that shirt than their school uniforms or PE attire!

                      Thanks catmum for all details.
Actually for P1s this year, Principal says it is compulsory to join one of the aesthetics CCA for 1 term. If you don’t select one, the school will eventually allocate one for you to join.

Than no hope liao to buy one...maybe the school can come up with the T shirt but without the 75 years mark for pupils who want to wear them for CCAs days??
