?? Don't understand your statement.[/quote]
Hence schools like SOTA and NUSH should be thought of in terms of PSLE tscore cut off point as they do not take part in S1 postingverykiasu2010:

No it won't. COPs are based on solely on S1 Central Posting and does not take into account transfers, DSAs etc.
based on this thread, parents are talking about cut off point for NUSH, currently being listed at 264. But we all understand that NUSH does not take part in S1 posting - hence whether got cut off point to talk about? Anyone after receiving PSLE result can still go and apply to NUSH and take part in S1 posting at the same time (for other schools). Entrance to NUSH is all by DSA
may be it is more appropriate to say that the students admitted to NUSH this year had PSLE result ranged from xxx to 264.
but never mind
the para below is copied from NUSH website :
Year 1 (Phase 2 – PSLE Phase)
Application Process
NUS High School of Mathematics and Science is not in the list of schools under the Secondary One Posting Exercise. Students who wish to apply to join NUS High School of Mathematics and Science using PSLE score in our Phase 2 selection must apply via our online portal. The registration period for Phase 2 is open for a week from 25 November to 01 December 2010 (including the weekend on 27 and 28 November). The online portal is accessible 24 hours a day starting from 10 am on 25 November 2010 until 10 pm (Singapore Time) on 01 December 2010. -
"may be it is more appropriate to say that the students admitted to NUSH this year had PSLE result ranged from xxx to 264."
Not true. The DSAed students include some of the top scorers in last year PSLE exam including my DD GEP classmates from RGPS. Quite a no of GEPers above 270s in this small cohort (< 140) . Post PSLE intake is also a small (believe less than 10), lowest score (COP) being 264. -
walterp:
Only fewer than ten got in post PSLE? That's very few. Is NUSH trying to have 100% intake through DSA only. Previously a lot more were admitted post PSLE.\"may be it is more appropriate to say that the students admitted to NUSH this year had PSLE result ranged from xxx to 264.\"

I totally agreed with you. Got friend DS got 260 cant get in.\"may be it is more appropriate to say that the students admitted to NUSH this year had PSLE result ranged from xxx to 264.\"

because their admission is not based on PSLE score, that is why it makes no sense to talk about 'cut off point' for NUSH

So i think NUS High DO have a cut off point, that what e NUS high told us they DO have a cut off point!

1. Shortlisting of applicants will be solely based on the PSLE performance.
2. Applicants with aggregate score of 250 above with A* in both Math and Science are encouraged to apply.
3. Do take note that the cut-off point for 2010 was 264.
above copied from school website
if they say cut off is at 264, why encourage people with 250 & above to apply. give people false hope ? or those 260 / 262 do not have * for math & science ?
but any way since they are independent they can freely choose who they want, they can cut off any where they want, because students admitted by NUSH is not by ranking in MOE S1 posting system -
Yes, 260 w A* in math n sci cant get in. If i am not wrong, i heard that 250 is not set by NUS High, 250 is e min reqirement MOE wanted them to put down under phrase2 unless i heard wrongly. Tht why during their phase 2, their cut off point is never at 250.

10% of vacancies are under PSLE result phase, i.e. 14 places only. Next year if they set it at 5%, that means only 7 places .... lol
it is entirely up to the school to decide how / who they want to admit
if the candidate could DEMONSTRATE strong interest and aptitude in math & science during the DSA phase, could have no problem securing an offer from the school during the DSA stage. A fren's son did just that and PSLE score only 240
if (just for discussion sake) the child flopped miserably at the DSA test and could not show any ability in the DSA test/camp, then the admission office would be doubtful on the ability of the student to cope in an accelerated learning environment esp in a math & science school ?
based on the limited vacancies available post-PSLE, the school would be spoilt for choices in terms of candidates with high scores -

I think not only happened in NUS high, there are few kids who are DSA to top IP sch, also psle score 240 or less than...So it happens everywhere not only in NUS High....MumSAH:
