If your intention is to expose her to a bigger social setting and learn more, then yes, do send her to a playgroup or childcare. If you are a working mom and need day care for your kid, then I suppose you don’t have a choice.
If I compare my kid who went to full time childcare at 18mths and my fren’s kid who stayed home with the grandparents till 4yrs old, I would say my kid has picked up languages, math and social skills better than her kid. Her 4yo kid can only speak market Chinese (thanks to the grandparents) and does nothing else but watch TV at home. Her kid is also more selfish and demanding, and afraid to speak up in front of other kids.
So, from comparison, I would say do send your kid to a playgroup from young, either half-day or full day.
IMHO, all CC or kindys have their strengths. There is no real need to send them to “branded” CCs or kindys. It is better for them to learn at any playgroup than to stay home with no proper education. Keep them home only if you are a childhood educator yourself.[/img] -
Large families and kampong way of life with lots of playmates are now rare - extremely. Even working parents are having lesser time with our kids. Ironically, this is to better provide for the kids.
We decided that sending our young ones to childcare was better than spending every day with grandparents and domestic helper. The young ones are so full of energy and tedious for the elder to play catch up.
We started with half day and then moved on to full day. Do observe that the little ones learn more after converting to full day.
Do be warned of the “side effects” of sending the little ones to cc. Coping with wave of illness when they build up their immunity when exposed to other kids. -
My take is kindergarten until they are 3 or 4 then CCC when they go into K1 and K2. That way, they have time to adjust and will have lesser separation anxiety…

Just to share my experience. This month I started 2nd old DD on full day child care. 1st day, she went half day n 2nd day onwards, she is already on full day and comes home in the school bus with my 6 yr old DS. She cried for a week but now tells me she is a happy girl. The things they learn in school is definitely much more than staying at home. Based on experience, going to a non-aircon school reduces the rate of falling sick. 6 years ago when DS1 went to an zircon child care centre, he kept falling sick until I gave up and moved him to a non-aircon one.
