But if you buy, the property will still be yours even if prices dip a bit. You could just hold on to it and get rent. Dunno leh, I still can’t make myself rent. Just feel it’s too much of a "loss" to incur just for a place at a school.
Why don’t you just try for CHS or Kuo Chuan? -
still not sure to try for CHS or not,
besides tight vacancy, the high COP also deters me cos my boy isnt the bright type n very diff to make him study
if he cant get into CHS sec, will end up in neighborhd sec -
i live outside 1km for kuo chuan.
also must ballot for kuo chuan.
is kuo chuan sec affiliated to kuochuan pri?
if shift, no need to ballot at all for msh
my dh pref catholic sch but i also wonder is there any catholic abt chs (so academic) or msh?
i know no sch has 100pc guai students but does msh hv more naughty kids than usual? same for CHS? -

With CHS producing top O level students, I think this year's P1 registration will be even hotter. Why don't you just buy a place near MSH instead of renting? -
ya we are catholic.
how ‘catholic’ is MSH?
my girl in st nicks only has bible time and some morning masses whch she attends only if she is early or has companions i think.
what kind of catholic activities does MSH have?
ya thinkg of buying the hse there but rather ex now.
why did ur ds cry?
my boy is also the super blur type, cant hold things properly even got a few items
was quite sure abt msh until the threads on the catered food and bullying
if shift near msh, also far for my girl to go st nic. and for #3 also. n far from tuition ctrs now. but i guess no choice lor. -
At least I see Mother Mary being mentioned all the time, in the comm book, posters around school etc, hymns being played before assembly. But nowadays, all catechism is held in the early morning (during morning reading time) and not compulsory. Last time, we had a pastoral class period dedicated to catechism. But catechism can be taught in church so no worries. They also have school mass etc.
Aiyah, every school has bullying and weird food.
I am opposite from you, I need to buy near St Nick’s or IJ Toa Payoh for my gal. How did you get into St Nick’s? -
cherrygal:
If you are planning to register your daughter in IJ, do consider the 2 schools seriously. St Nic's a SAP school, very stressful (according to BIL).

I was from IJ TP and daughter just started P1 this year.
My BIL got his daughter in St Nic as they were staying within 1km and Catholics. -

contrary to wat u think, so far for p1 p2 i find st nick too relax, at least compared to sch eg rosyth, cath hi.
p1 no exam.
p2, got daily work that count towards year end banding. ie at end p2, will band kids into top 3 classes. but their assessment criteria is daily wksheet, spellings n then yr end sa. sa paper is modified, not full paper.
it is stressful in the sense u must keep up wf daily work
eg for eng, show n tell, spelling, counts n ad hoc compre whc we dont even know when n what is counted
then yr end sa
for ch, its spellg n fortnight test
for math, its also ad hoc wk n wksht
but my friend whose elder girl was from st nic pri n now sec 2, said the sch dont really gv extra lessons to help the p6
its left to the parents
for me, i find since sch relax, parents usu relax but come p3, it may be a big jump if the parents nvr start to 'hothouse' at p1 becos tht is the time to build foundatn. n no feedback.
eg my girl's weakness in compre only shows at p2 near sa2. too late already...know wat i mean?
and if ur gal joins competitive sports as cca, its 3x a wk,
too much for me... -
LOLMum:
you dont need to declare ownership of the property and no one asked me wrt ownership of property the 2x i registered my kids (1 being most recent). just make sure you are staying at that address legally...
Personally, I don't think that renting or even the length of tenancy (6 mths, 1 year, 2 years 20 years etc) is the issue. Think about it. Setting out rules for this would seem to cause more problems that it is worth ie. problems for school, MOE, future applicants.
The issue is where you stay. Or at least where you declare that you stay.
Just make sure that when you do declare, make sure it is truthful.

My daughter is in IJ TP as I was old girl.
I am still wondering how and what the 'formative assessments' in place of CA/SA would be like. Not comfortable with no exams at P2, bcos from P3 onwards, there will be SA1 (30%) and Science as well.
Son is in SAP school (P5 tis yr)...what I've been through the years has taught me that it's never too early to build up the foundation.
There are pros and cons of weekly/ad hoc tests vs 3 big ones (CA1/SA1/SA2). I am not for competitive sports...BIL's daughter is hardly home early after school, not for supplementary but for dance/choir.
