CNY - do you look forward to it?
-
I am still not quite prepared for CNY. Because after Christmas, it was my birthday, then wedding anniversary. We just finished celebrating our wedding anniversary last week so am only starting to think about CNY now!
My husband is not Chinese hence no need to do anything CNY on his side! Therefore, it is left for me to visit my side of the family! Visiting my parents for the reunion lunch/dinner is a breeze every year, no need for me to do anything except perhaps buy the Raw Fish Salad or couple of abalone for the hot-pot. Family also not too big, and I need to give ang pows only to one niece & nephew. After eating, go home! :politebleah:
On the 1st day of CNY, although there is no need to visit my PILs, usually I will still go instead of staying at home on this day, to give ang pows and oranges to them. I do not visit my parents again since we just did the reunion dinner previous day! On the 2nd day, we will visit my Grandmother which I really look forward to! This is a chance to catch up with my cousins and usually I hope to catch as many of them as possible! Of course in this case, ang pow wise will need to prepare a lot as many of them have a few kids each! It is also a chance for my boy to meet up with his relatives and a chance to catch as many ang pows as possible (which goes straight into his bank account, no clawback or recycling).
For the first day of office, give ang pows to immediate colleagues and staff who have rendered their help to me during the year. After that, may do one or two visits to friends' house to catch up. I do not visit any other relatives separately. Finish!
Not so siong lah, no need to do spring cleaning since not expecting any visitors during CNY! :rahrah:
I am now wondering whether my boy's kindy will celebrate CNY and requires him to wear traditional clothes or not. I did not buy those Chinese clothes for him this year.....
:celebrate: -
I enjoy the preparation for CNY..excluding the spring cleaning part ...but once it reach 1st day of lunar new year I don't really feel good as cny celebration will over soon
-
I enjoy CNY cos:
1. My mum & the maids will prepare everything. I only need to buy clothes for myself.
2. I enjoy visiting my relatives and we can talk about so many things!!
3. I enjoy seeing my son having fun with my nieces and nephews.
I don’t enjoy CNY cos:
1. Everyone will start asking me to have another baby.
2. My husband will be driving my car.
3. My boy’s meal time schedule is totally off - he does not have proper meals during CNY period. -
i don’t enjoy CNY previously as it’s basically doing nothing at the relatives’ place (and having no kids of my own). I enjoy CNY now, and especially I have my own kids, because I enjoyed watching my two kids catching up with their cousins and playing around, making mess of the place - and I can enjoy the annual steamboat spread! Ang Poh wise, kekeke… just hope to break even … kekeke…

CNY is more for the children.
Probably enjoy having reunion dinner and that is all .
For ang bao, every year, we just give, just for the ocassion.
I dont enjoy "gossiping’during the cny gatherings. -
CNY is really for the kids…I remember getting all excited about CNY when I was younger - new clothes and everything. Now, I just couldn’t be bothered. Fortunately, I’ve passed the ‘when are you getting married’ and ‘when are you having another kid’ stage. Whew !!!
I will enjoy first 2 days of CNY this year, bcos I told myself NOT to plan any work for son…enjoy this year as next year will be crucial year (PSLE). -
I don’t like CNY cos most of the relatives we hardly meet the whole year round, so come together on CNY don’t really know what to say. Plus they are most likely to compare kids or number of kids, and ask insensitive question like “so when are you going to have another baby?”.
Have been toying with the idea of going away for a family vacation during CNY, but the pricing is so much more ex durng this period. anyone has done it before (go on holiday during CNY). Is it worth it? -
I LOVE Chinese New Year! Always have, since a child, and now as a adult with kids, perhaps even more so.
The festivities, cookies, bak kwa, CNY songs (yeah, some here may mock me for not being to understand all the lyrics, but...) time with family, giving ang-pows, receiving ang-pows. Yeah, tiring and some parts that are a little draggy, but overall great fun. -
finally feeling a little CNY mood.
went DBS queued for new notes, after 30 mins, some of the denominations ran out -
the mood and joy of CNY i experience now is never the same when i was a child.
during childhood, the 2 days of CNY were my happiest days in the entire year. :imcool:
