Hi
1) The chairman of the debate competition advised the two teams to speak ............ in the finals as the audience gave feedback that the debaters did not speak loud enough in the semi finals.
a) loud b) loudly c) louder d) more loudly
I am more inclined to go for option (d) --- more loudly
More loudly is a comparative form of adverb, the adverb “more loudly” modifies the verb “speak”.
It’s inappropriate to use the comparative form of adjective ‘louder’ in this question as adjective is used to modify nouns or pronouns.

The model answer is \"more loudly\" which I got it wrong.
Thank-you.

Hi!
I quite confuse with the following questions. Anyone can help?
(1) Five weeks seems like a long time to wait for the holidays to arrive.
Does the answer (seems) correct? Why is it not \"seem\"?
(2) The number of shoplifting cases has risen over the years.
Does the answer (has) correct? Why is it not \"have\"?
Thanks. -
Five weeks is a period , so a singular verb (seems) is required.
We focus on the NUMBER and not the shoplifting cases to decide on the verb. -
