I have been reflecting on my role after reading Amy Chua's article (the link you had posted). As the article was also featured in the Straits Times Review and Forum yesterday, my dh and dd got to read it. After my dh read it, he said I should be more motivated now. His dry sense of humour was not motivating at all. :roll: What made it worse was my dd said I am like a typical Chinese mother. :faint:

Come on, I'm sure you're no way like the way she's being protrayed. Imptly you're kind enough to share your 'trade secrets' with us here. I still remembered the advice you gave me last yr regarding HCL. And I've worked very hard at it with ds, much harder than I otherwise would.

This Amy Chua article really made me cringe in discomfort! Even if her method works I also don't want. Anyway it is a moot point whether there will be repercussion once her dds gain independence in future, having been brought up in this narrow and restricted manner.

Agreed. The outcome of \"right or wrong\" parenting will only surfaces years later. That's why it is important to guide them rather than just pure imposing. Even at this young age, they might not fully understand the important of education. It is our responsible to inculcate values.

Sometimes I wished that ds can remain at 5 yrs old rather than grow up and I lose control over him.

Markfch's ds just started P1 ..... hee hee after all the SA's .. he also want to child to grow up faster ..

Yes, me too! The joy I feel when holding her hands and even kissing them. Till now I enjoy kissing her cheeks and she likes it when I do that too... She will also run to me and give me hugs and want me to cuddle her tight... but sometimes I just wonder how long this will last. So... we should treasure every moment we have with our little ones...

I am surprised he would still want to hold my hands at P5...but like what you said, hold his hands for as long as possible. As for my daughter, I hug her and she will tell me, 'I am not your bolster'.

Heads up for those in GB or planning to join GB…this Dec, there is a Cambodia mission trip. How cool is that!!! How I wish it is in June instead.
