Joy, have you tried out this centre? What is the teacher and student's ratio? Am searching for one for my son. -
Just to add comments to Ms Rosalind’s Planet A Star creative writing course. My son just attended the 5 days session with her in Upper Bukit Timah frm 8-12 June. I’m really disappointed with the way she handles the children & her method of teaching is too strict. She leaves the children to do their work independently. doesn’t really guide & access the child individually, unless the child has queries for her. Homework is given, but I find the assignments too difficult for a P1 child to do on his own without any guidance.
Her main intention is to sell her books which cost $100 & her 5 days course is only an introduction to her books afterwhich the parents are supposed to follow up with the child when the course ends. Of the 7 books I’ve bought, she only managed to touch 3 books, maybe 4-5 pages each. The rest of the books are left untouched. She’s also not friendly & warm towards the children & parents…When you ask her questions or feedback, she’ll just brush you off…I find she’s very money minded & doesn’t really has a passion for teaching.
My son didn’t benefit much at all, infact feels worried after every lesson cos her teaching method is too ‘stern’ for the lower primary children.:-( Really feel my $$ wasted!! -
yes, i did , tried out for a month and i stopped as its too far for me.My the other gf is still with them. This centre is operated by ex rgs student.Student ratio is around 1;10.Just one hour of writing, monthly 45 dollars. For those poor or average writer . you can see improvement as they guide on structure and exposed them to different way of writing...You may call them and check.

Joy, which beanch did you went? I’m looking at the one at Hougang, called this afternoon and was told that their English prog is 2hrs. $85/mth.
The lady who pick up the phone doesn’t seems to be keen to talk, so I rush through what would be taught and cost timings. Forgotten to check the ratio… think i have to call back and ask again -
Yes, that is the branch that I went. The counter is like that but the manager is nice.
I think her strength is in the quality of the books she has written. Her approach is rather drilling based, in my opinion. Very academic, result oriented and systematic. If this type of course is what you are looking for, maybe you can give her a try. Personally I prefer a more 'lively' type of lesson if available, something to inspire my child.
Hey babysz, i find if you're looking for 'lively' type of lesson, i would really recommend miss er (9655 5836). she coach e/m/s and her english lessons really impress me - she manages to cover oral, compre, compo, synthesis, everything plus creative writing and i see the improvements in my kids work and interest in her worksheets. her way of teaching is very open and vibrant, more on participative plus understanding than just rote learn. my kids been with her awhile now and can see they have develop a passion for reading/writing
