Hi 1998-DD,
This year there will be streaming for Sec 1 going to Sec2, so if your girl performs well , she will still have a chance to go stretch class next year. Anyway, these 2 classes do slightly more challenging work, the curriculum and work given is almost the same across the level. -
Thanks Animalfarm.

hi 1998-dd,
Don’t worry, the school will not neglect those who are not in stretch classes. Basically all assignments are the same, except the two classes are given more challenging tasks at times. The gals will be stream at the end of sec 1 and 2. -

I would just like to add that most of the Good Academic awardees come from these two stretch classes.Hi, my dd is in st nic 1st year. Just came across this posting about the 2 stretch classes. What do they offer in the stretch class? Also saw a posting about the school neglecting the non-top performing students. I am rather concerned as my girl is not in the 2 stretch classes....
Does it also mean that the school ranks and streams students yearly?
Appreciate any additional information on this topic.
Thanks.
The other classes average only about one student per class except for maybe the MEP and Drama classes where they might have more awardees, so good luck! -

I've not heard about stretch class. Only about the High-ability classes in sec 3 & 4. Whatever it is, my daughter was probably in the bottom classes and not a stretch class. She had quite bad teachers in sec 1 & 2, sadly. But she did pull up by sec 3 (never in provisional class, thankfully) and did well in O levels. So i think the school prepares them well.

are sec 1’s allowed to appeal for change of CCA if they are not posted to one of their interest or perhaps after trying out the CCA for 1 or 2 session , it is not suitable? Any successful cases and how to go about ?

Your dd will have to report to the cca she is posted to and attend it for the year. You can only appeal beginning of next year but chances is slim. Btw, which cca is you dd posted to? -

Chinese Drama , though she put it as 2nd choice , after attending 3 sessions , she realised that nothing much has been done and bored.ssll:

Her first choice was Dance , as she has ballet background.
Is a pity in secondary school , students don't have much flexibility in the choice of their CCA -

She shouldn't have place chinese drama as her 2nd choice if she is not very keen cos chances of getting in is definitely higher than dance. From what I gather, the dance society only recruit about 20 gals every year and the number of gals who sign up for it is way above the number offered. Anyway, things may not be that bad, your gal should give herself more time to get use to it. I believe she will benefit from there as she will have more exposure to the chinese language. -
hi,
I have two qns.
Thanks in advance very much - to all mommies who can help reply.
a) I presume not all parents who send the girls here are 100% Catholics.
St Nick is a very good school.
is there any parent from christian Methodist faith who send their girl in here to study?
but how do you cope with the situation - such that daughter doesn’t get confused between Methodist faith and Catholic faith ? can opt out of Mass ?
b) character education.
character building / moulding.
does the school teach “li yi lian chi” ?
can share - how is character education being taught in St Nick?
