Hi

Does anyone know where to sew the name tag for the new PE uniform - is it above the school crest or below? MTIA...

      Above the school crest.

No need to follow strictly 2cm above crest... as sometimes with the smallest PE shirt, the name tag will be at the shoulder!

Thank you all for your thoughts and comments. My husband’s school is ACS so that is by no means an easy decision to make (if you think of how strong the ACS spirit is in my household! lol!). We live in Clementi, so NYPS is slightly nearer but I think that is not a deal breaker.

Of course I would love for my son to go to NYPS but my son is the sort who would zone out if he is forced to do work, but when he wants to do something, he masters it easily and quickly. The trick is to get him in the mood. Thus, on one hand, I would love for him to be in the Chinese environment and the exposure as opposed to ACS, and for him to be in a mixed school, yet on the other hand, its natural for a parent to want to lend a helping hand. By sending him to my husband’s school, I am not suggesting PSLE will be any easier, but it will at least lessen some stress which comes from selecting a secondary school.

Sigh… you would think things will get easier when kids are older, but from the looks of it, its only going to get trickier, especially when they start formal schooling.

            How the school select Prefect?

What I know some pri school will get the students to write why they want to be a prefect and submit to their teachers, they will then go for the interview.

I’m not sure about Nanyang Primary? Do Teachers only select the good ones?

The new principal has emphasize that the student will have a chance to do leadership role…

If I were in your shoes, I'd probably send my son to ACS. getting into ACSI would be a given, n it is a good school. One of my sons is there n loving it. It will definitely take some pressure off PSLE. That's what I would do, but I guess you'll have to work it out with your husband and also ask your son where he'd rather be; after all, he's the one who's going to have to be in the school for 6 years. I know some boys who transferred out of NYPS to ACS cos of Chinese. Another friend has 2 boys and a girl, n the 2 boys attended ACSP while the girl attended NYPS.
No need to join the club.

Just enrol in P2A2, can already.

Hi Mum of 3, do you know if there is a quota/limit for p2a1 and p2a2? I heard its very competitive and not confirm can get in... still worry

The only limit is the number of vacancies available during that phase.
NYPS has the largest intake of all primary schools, so there are plenty of places.

Don't worry about it...p2a1 and p2a2 are as good as guaranteed a place.
Thanks for all of your replies! I feel more reassured now! Will focus on the baby making! 🙂

                  Chirunner,

Thank you for your thoughts. It certainly helps to get an insider’s perspective! Yeah, with the affiliation going on, we will probably end up sending our son to ACS unless I can think of a way around it.

What do parents of boys who are in Nanyang feel about the affiliation? Do you feel more stress that there is no affiliated secondary school? Or are you not worried since Nanyang is a good school, and with good teachers, your child will probably do well to go to a good secondary school (I used to think that)

Another thing, I have been talking to a friend whose son is in ACS P2 this year and she commented that in P1, her son had no homework at all every day and nothing mattered other than the end of year exam. It is more holistic in a certain way, paying more attention to character development rather than academic.

What do parents feel about Nanyang? Are your kids happy in Nanyang and what do they like? Do you feel that its more academic or do the kids get exposed to a lot of other character building activities as well?

                  Thanks!

I agree with verykiasu2010 on all the positive attributes of NYPS :D. So far, I am still impressed with the curricullum and Chinese culture of NYPS (kid in P3 now) and the relentless effort of the sch in providing an all rounded education for every child. My DS had almost zero homework in P1 too and not much in P2 (P3 yet to see).

NYPS and ACS have very different culture and are both good schools sought after by many parents. At the end of the day, Cambriant, you just need to decide which sch best meet the needs of your child. U are lucky since not many parents are in such good position as U are !

Btw, I knew of another parent in NYPS who is similar to you, ie hubby fm ACS and she fm NYPS. Her first son went to ACS and daughter came to NYPS
