It’s so damn scary and dumb to introduce this and that at P1…I’m still not used to the idea of ‘formative assessments’ instead of SA at P1/2. Govt wants more babies, so need to justify why more immigrants are required. Just look at the number of people on the road now…already so packed with 5 million people. Maybe election coming soon, so govt needs to ‘answer’ to Singaporeans…otherwise no need to give any reason.

Singapore education system changes very fast. Now 52% of young Singaporeans are speaking English at home...so it's harder for them to accept Chinese and speak this at home. Also, there are few babies esp Chinese. Thus there is a need to import more Chinese (young immigrants) here. Offtopic now, but how can Singaporeans possibly have more kids when education system is so demanding and costs of living so high. If both parents working, who looks after the kids ? Not everyone has the luxury of grandparents...then ok hire a maid. But maid salary now increased to $450 a month. No guarantee they can work either. Back to square 1.

Yes, it seems like a trend among the younger generation to converse in English now. This seems to be the case for DD's sch anyway. When DD speaks Chinese, she sounds like a foreigner and her Chinese is a direct translation from English. :slapshead:

Definitely a challenge to have more kids in Singapore....with the rigorous academic workload, parents need to be very involved and can be physically draining if both parents work. If you outsouced, that equates to loads of $$$.

Mine simply keeps quiet when we speak to her in Mandarin. Can be very tiring conversing with my P1 gal.
Academic workload is no joke now. Parents have to be very involved. Even if outsource to tutors, they can play you out like maids.

                Daddy 😧
I read that the change will take place for PSLE 2017... so meaning those from Pri1 2012 will be the 1st batch of students taking the new exams......

I wonder if it mean that textbooks would be different too? can't use pass-it down :?

Ya, not sure if textbooks will also change. Will have to wait and see. But somehow, I've a nagging suspicion that they will change the textbooks to tie in with the changes.
