All About Full-Time Maids

Exactly. Even if not sobbing, should at least be dazed.jtoh:
Andaiz, sounds like she's waiting for angpao before leaving.
If my maid is leaving me in the lurch like that over a death (likely false), honestly, she shouldn't be expecting more than a piece of red paper.
Given their passionate nature, I thought they should be really sad (to show it) and worried about the 'defenceless' kid(s) left at home? A bit odd to be so calm etc - likely more muddleheaded and not listening very much. -
The salary adjustment is definitely creating havoc from what i have read here. Why cant agency be silent about it & let the market decide instead of making such a big publicity announcement. Its more subtle this way. Now employers got bear all sorts of excuses from the helpers just so that these pple could get more pay.

Not exactly dazed, singing today. And good appetite to boot.
Say with me everyone....Plan B, Plan B, Plan B. :!: -

What is your Plan B?
If her relative really passed away and she's singing you'd better be careful. She could be slowly losing her mind. -
Was thinking, if your maid hasn’t completed her contract and wants to go back for funeral etc, who foots the air ticket? Especially if she’s still paying off her loan?
-
Seems like there is a new amendment coming on.
\"Under the new rules, foreign workers or maids who have their contract terminated within six months will be refunded 50 per cent of their agency fees.\"
Thought for maids, employers are the ones who have to pay upfront 100%? Does it mean that employers can get back the 50% paid??
Some comments below:
Some also questioned how the refund system can be implemented if a worker is prematurely terminated without the Employment Agency's knowledge.
Bridget Tan, President, Humanitarian Organisation for Migration Economics, said: \"The employer has the right to just cancel the work permit still under the present system to send a domestic worker home and deport her without even the agent knowing, the EA knowing that she has been deported.\"
John Gee, President of Transient Workers Count Too, shared the same view.
\"If they get fired by an employer, employers don't necessarily return a worker to an agency if they don't want them. Sometimes they will send them out of the country pretty quickly.
\"And if the agency doesn't hear about this quickly, then how would they intervene?\"

My question is: if this is in place, will employment agencies try their darndest to prevent maids from leaving their employment? what if the maid 'ki siao' and throw pp off building? Gosh...will wait to see what happens next and how this to be implemented. -

There is no hard and fast rule and it depends on the working relationship etc.
My agent is saying that the airfare may be half-half; and the home leave paid by me. Other versions is that she is going back on her contract which says no home leave till it is done so she has to pay for all. -

Get new maid. jtoh, that's why hquek and I have that nagging feeling that it isn't for real.Andaiz:

smartcookie (my nick for this maid) is not a very feely person. She's v cold and doesn't call home often. -
well said, hquek! MOM shld REALLY do something to be fair to SG employers:
1) waive maid levy
2) FDWs pay for their own loan
3) NO transfer for maids who 'suka' 'suka' ask for transfer!
Since the maids suppliers/maid agencies feel that maids in SG shld get smilar pay as in HK and Taiwan, then they also have to adhere to the same work conidtions/rule as their HK/Taiwan counterparts. Enough said.hquek:
btw, I understand from a filipino maid that in HK, there is no such thing as transfer. Once the employer don't want to engage the helper/maid, she will HAVE to leave the country. Time for SG to do that? They can well afford to fly to and fro now...may as well accumulate the mileage.
