Order from Dangdang
-
Actually when I first ordered from dangdang in Dec 2009, the books arrived in 2 to 3 weeks !
I believe it is because many people are ordering from them, and the orders are huge, that is why the shipments are delayed. -
I have been reading and \"hearing\" so much about Dangdang and how good their books are... I am so tempted to purchase from them. The only thing that's holding me back is that everything is in Mandarin. Not that I do not understand Mandarin, but I have never liked reading anything in Mandarin (though I enjoy Chinese shows)...
Arrggghhhh!!!! Can't they have a button where we can click for English? I'm ok even if they translate in broken English as long as the message is put through. -

happy to be mum,hi doramon
i had ordered the \"si wu kuai du\" as recommended by Tamarind and I have read feedbacks from other parents. it is for my P1 DS and next time can pass down to DS2
you can go read the post on \"teaching chinese at home\" or the post from Tamarind.
thanks tamarind for your recommendations!
You are welcome
Remember to read the first 30 pages of book 1, and use games to teach ! -
doramon:
Hi can anybody recommend chinese books from dang dang suitable for P1? preferably those with chinese words and hanyu pin yin? since now P1 must learn han yu pin yin.
Check out the list of excellent books from my home library :
http://tamarindvillage.blogspot.com/2010/09/how-to-raise-bilingual-child.html
Kids in P1 who are not able to read independently, will have to start with the picture books in the ages 2 to 6 group of my blog. In fact, the words in the picture books are very challenging for Singaporean kids, even adults may need to check dictionary for some of the words.
As for hanyu pinyin, it is only tested in the first half of P1. After that, kids must read and write Chinese characters.
Most of the books in my blog do not have hanyu pinyin, because I believe that it will slow down kids progress in character recognition. When you take away the hanyu pinyin, kids will reject Chinese books.
The best way to teach Chinese, is to sit beside the child, ask him to read every word out loud, and help him when he does not know any word. Then we can be sure that he is looking at the Chinese characters and not just reading the hanyu pinyin which is useless. -

I don't think dangdang will bother to have an English website, this is because they have a huge domestic market, overseas orders probably make up only a small % of the sales.I have been reading and \"hearing\" so much about Dangdang and how good their books are... When I was working in a university in China, I saw many students and staff collecting their books from dangdang, while the big bookshops are collecting dust
Our library has a good collection of books from dangdang, you can try to look for them there. -

Thanks for your reply, Tamarind. Pardon my ignorance... I've never heard of Dangdang until 2 months ago, when I chanced upon the KSP forum....

I will try the libraries to let DD have a feel first before deciding if I should purchase them online. Thanks once again... -

You can also try the translation function of google, when you search for dangdang on google. I've not tried it so not sure how it will affect the shopping experienceI have been reading and \"hearing\" so much about Dangdang and how good their books are... Thanks SAHM_TAN... Actually I don't really need the translation, but just that my brain takes a while to process when reading in Mandarin... Time taken to read may take twice as long compared to English.

Hence I find it a chore
Reading in English makes it just so convenient.

We are just too used to an English language environment. Since DD does not have an English version site, the next best thing is to use the translation function of Google.

I just went to the website again. Initially couldn't find the Login/Register icon. Took me a while to find it.

I'm sure I'll get used to it after various rounds...
