Edusave Scholarship Award

where to find the information on what you quoted ?
answering to your above question...Only the top 10% of p5 gep and p6 gep in your kids school are qualify for the Edusave scholarship. For example if your kids school has 50 p5 gep. So the top 10% = 5 gep students will qualify for the scholarship..Kind of Unfair right.....but what to do..this is the criterial set.... :roll:HVR:
So far so good and my question is how about the supposedly top 1% of each year's cohort. These are the students in the GEP and since they are the perceived top 1%, does that mean they receive the award as a matter of course? Or do they have to be top 10% in their GEP cohort in order to receive the award?
Another point is if they have to be top 10% of the GEP to receive the award, wouldn't it be a tad unfair because if they remain in the mainstream, it is highly that they will be among the top 10% and they would qualify for the award easily?
Anyone can enlighten? I am really curious. -

ya the MOE website says top 5% or 10% of each stream....Hi thanks. I am aware of EESIS but that's not what I'm referring to. I am saying the GEP students are deemed to be the top 1% of their respective cohorts because MOE said only top 1% will be drafted into GEP. On the other hand, the Edusave scholarship is awarded to top 10% of P5 and P6 students in each school. That being the case, where do GEP students stand? They are deemed to be top 1% but no Edusave award because they are in GEP? Or must they be top 10% in their GEP school/cohort to qualify for Edusave scholarship? That prompt me to ask as I am very curious to know.
verykiasu2010:
The edusave bursary has a household income qualification, as you mentioned, $4k
for edusave scholarship, there is no income qualifier, as it is named, scholarship
have not heard of scholarship for top 1% GEP. May be you are referring to the EESIS for the top 1/3 of each cohort that enters IP school - meant to help defray the high fees of independent school, regardless of GEP or mainstream, as long as you are the top 1/3 of those who enter independent school, then there is also bursary for the independent school.
go check MOE website for details
so may be you are thinking is it better to be top 10% in mianstream to get the $350 or $400 or to stay in GEP which may not get the $350 or $400 ?
i believe the cost of running the GEP program is already more than $400 extra per child per year -

i believe the cost of running the GEP program is already more than $400 extra per child per year[/quote]I also believe the scholarship is meant for top x% of students in each stream, so as to encourage the students to excel in whichever stream / level they are in.
Like what VeryKiasu2010 mentioned, the cost of running the GEP program is much higher than the normal and GEP students already enjoy the benefit of this program. If basing on the fact that they are top 1%, then all the GEP students will qualify for the scholarship without even having to put in any effort to reach their \"top\" / \"best\". Come to Sec Sch, this same issue is going to surface again for IP / express top 5% / 10%.
I think we need to recognise the top of the different streams of students for their effort in reaching the top in the stream - be it GEP / mainstream / IP / express, etc. It's just like being in the \"top\" class and not being the top 3 to get the prize, being in the \"top\" school and not being in the top 10% to get the scholarship, etc.......this type of comparison is endless.
In my personal opinion, I really do not think this should become a question of fairness of the scholarship award. What is important is the value imparted to the kid - if you work hard and put in effort, you will get rewarded ultimately in life, in some form or other. -
Agree totally. I understand the cost of running GEP is already high and the top 1% shouldn't get the reward by default. Just hope the students can contribute back to the Soceity when they are ready. I was just curious how award recipient for GEPer is determined. Thks everyone for clearing the air.

Congrats! Your DS has done very well in fact. In GEP and got the award for top 10%! You must be very proud of him! -
Tinkerbelle:
Aaaawww... Thanks, tinkerbelle.
Hi buds,buds:
Hi Tinkerbelle, i was rushing to get to the ceremony from the clinic with
my newborn. Thank goodness, i arrived in the nick of time! The guest of
honour congratulated us on both accounts, DD2's achievement (he told her
that he wants to see her again next year... :please: ... how sweet!) and
also on our 2wks old newborn addition to the family.
Yes, very
proud moment. It is also a good affirmation of all our efforts as a family
in support of one another when it comes to school stuff and studies.
We received the cashier's order after photo-taking and also a goodie bag
for DD2... no reception kinda makan whatsoever. Hehee.. That was
purely my wishful thinking nia! Aniwaes, not much waiting time either.
Well organised. :celebrate:
:congrats: to your DD2's academic achievements and :congrats: to your new bundle of joy.... εεδΈ΄ι¨....No makan, never mind....got Kodak Moments....keke. Luckily not much waiting time, especially since you were with your 2 week-old BB.
Guess you must be super duper busy nowadays with a new baby.....have fun and all the best .

Speaking of Kodak moments, we can print our
pictures from a specific site right? Geez i forgot abt it!
Now better go find that webbie address! Yikes! :siam:
There were many recipients within our constituency...
And why i say it's well run/organised? No one had to
wait more than the given time on the slip. I suppose
they go by specific pre-arranged cohorts bah.. Well,
aniwaes very well organised for such a huge event,
i was pretty impressed. :celebrate:
Baby's guai, so am not that much busier than before.
Just perhaps slightly less time for my two DDs as
compared to before due to the initial newborn
needs.. it'll pan out better once the baby's
bigger. The two jie-jies love their baby
brother to bits!
All the best to you too, tinkerbelle!
Take care.. hope to see you here in this thread next
year too, yeah?
-
Thanks Pen88n

Good to hear your BB is 'guai' and your household is coping well and everything is under control. Your BB is lucky to have 2 jie jies to love & help take care of him.
Likewise, hope to see you in this thread again next year. All the best. -
Hi,
Can anyone please enlighten me on how this edusave bursary works? Do the respective schools collate the top 25% of each level and send them to MOE and MOE in turn sends the letters to the parents? Can the school opt out of this initiative and not send the list to MOE? Thank you very much!!
