%Distinction for 2010 O level HCL is 49%(2009 is 50.6%).

      95.3% Pass for 2010.(2009 is 93.8%)

That's (%distinction) less than RGS....unbelievable. A non-SAP school turning the tables on a SAP school.

Ever since the decision to remove Chinese from the computation of A level points for university entry, there's just no more motivation for students to excel in CL. I really agree with what RV's principal said in zaobao:

Then I wonder why RGS did so well. Do the majority of RGS' chinese students take HCL?

That is why I also say in a previous post in this thread. I think it is more of attitude. Balancing isn't quite the issue here as we will expect most of the brightest students to do well in every subjects that they do.
Yes, almost all RGS students take HMT.

As a new P of RV, i think it's only natural for him to say or do something
to bring up the std of RV HCL when he sees their % of distinction is below the national average

i can't comment on pupils' attitude towards HCL as i dunno each and every1 of DHS 😉
but i disagree on the sentence in bold.
do well in every subj ?? some students are simply not so good on HCL or languages, esp the boys.
i thot u share the same thinking too ?? 😉

This is a good question but I don't know. I think the students should ask their teachers. I think is abit harsh that if the student don't get b4, they won't be allowed to do 4H2. Some students can get A1 for all subjects but C5 for chinese.

agree....... using an overall GPA is more fair then.

I agree with you but it is only partially true. This principal is the type that try new things. While he was the prinpical of The Chinese High, he came out with this idea that all teachers must at least get a Master or even Ph.D degree so that they can better guide students' research work. This HCL promotion criteria is not the only thing he gets started in rv. Within a short time in RV, he has started many new programmes and ideas such as exemption from exams for students with GPA>3.8, Asian Young Leader Convenion, Badminton Academy, Balanced Education Curriculum, comprising a Leadership-Character Development Curriculum and a Cognitive Interest Development Curriculum etc...Seems that some people don't like him but I am convinced that he really want to give himself a great present when he is retiring in 5 years.

If you are looking for a top co-educational secondary school that offers good academic curriculum, enroll in Dunhan High School in Singapore. DHP offers integrated program and quality education that enhance students’ talents and activities which helps them to take directly A-level examinations without taking the O-level examinations.

Sometime ago he visited a popular primary school and a neighbourhood primary school. MOE said he will visit a popular secondary school and a neighbourhood secondary school awhile later.

                  It is DHS.

feedback from my gal was that the P said that he visited DHS becos DHS is both an IP and SAP sch.

There are other schools that are both IP and SAP. But I wonder if he picks the school himself or he asked MOE to pick one school for him that satisfies his criteria.
