Food I gather is about 80cents to dollar plus. If your child don't mind the food, perhaps $1 to $1.50? soya milk (the only thing my kid bought) is 50cents.

I usually pack food for my kid becos he's super fussy, but will still include a bit of money in case he wants to buy anything from canteen.

FYI, this year, the kids had catered food for the first 2 weeks; thereafter, next 2 weeks, a buddy will guide and help them to buy.

From what I heard from DS, they had a week or 2's worth of fried noodles/beehoon. First day was with fishball and veg (both of which he didn't eat). Apparently he was heartily sick of frid noodles/beehoon after that.

Other parents with different version, please post. DS1 is not very forthcoming with news and esp about food. I had to dig and pry.

Son told me soya milk cost 20c. That's all he bought. He said there's no time to eat so he's happy just eating the bread or biscuits or cereal (coco crunch or honeystars) that I packed for him.

We learnt from a friend to give them in loose change so they can recognize the different coins. Eg, son told me soya milk cost 20c. If he gives 20c there will be no change (back). If he gives 50c, there will be change (back).

Papa is responsible for giving the pocket $. I think there is no daily fixed amount. He just ensure there is at least suff coins in his purse.

No complaints. I think they are doing a good job in keeping P1 parents informed.

Orientation was good in that they quite prepared parents on what to bring/do during the first day. Only confusing thing was that the groups assigned to is NOT the class - this was conveyed later after the orientation.

Post first day, I do like their daily checklist of books to bring in the first week - at least in this year, they staggered by subject the books to be brought to class over 3 days. So parents don't have to worry about super heavy schoolbags (my fren's kid had to bring ALL the books on the first day).

DS1 just called me today telling me the happy news that P1 to P6 kids can borrow books from library. So the initial news that P1 & 2 cannot borrow is wrong.


BTW, HWS seems to emphasise a lot on reading. What I took away from the Eng and Chinese head's presentations during the briefing are that they emphasise the importance of getting kids to read (storybooks) - as opposed to be doing worksheets/assessment books.

Kids have a chinese reading log where they write in the titles of books they have read. There is a target of 200 books per year (50 per semester). Although this seems like a mountain to me, I'm determined to climb this with him. All the same, I'm very happy that me & school are on the same page regarding reading. :celebrate:
