2009 P1 Registration Exercise for 2010 In-Take
-
Hi, I read with interest lots of chats about neighbourhood schools. I need advice:
I understand from some friends that girls (in general) of mixed origins (especially those, like mine (German & Chinese mix) tend to be sensitve and feel left out in local schools. Maybe they don't feel the sense of belonging.
I have returned after 20+ years of living overseas. Now it is time to look out for a place to live (of course, at the same time looking out for a primary school for my 2nd daughter, born in 2005). Can anyone please advise which neighbourhood school has a good mix or at least some foreign children?
Appreciate your help!

Ya lor, FMPS is an impossible dream, plus I don't even live near there. Need to see take-up rate for RVPS before we register that day.Hi winth,
New Town was merged with Ghim Moh Primary School in 2009. The building is very new & the best part it is a single session. In Queesntown area guess have quite limited primary schools.
RVPS past history indicated that balloting for more than 2km but difficult to say as this year the intake was reduced to 240.
Had tried to do PV with FMPS last year but was not successful.I guessed I'm just too far away from FMPS.
DH says should try for it. Scarly get a place there but still decide to go for New Town. -

I heard Tanjong Katong Primary is like a mini United Nation. Try going to the school and look at the environment.Hi, I read with interest lots of chats about neighbourhood schools. I need advice:

Hi Gin!
A few forummers here also said that River Valley Primary School is like an \"international\" school because it is located among condominiums where there are a lot of foreigners. You may like to check this school out, too.
Titank may be in a better position to advise. -
Hi QMS!
Hey, so thankful that there is more feedback now
Good idea to check out River Valley Primary as well! Oh, I have a friend whose child is in River Valley Primary School! In fact, I am giving that child Chinese tuition! Thanks again QMS for your kind suggestion!
Was looking through the Tanjong Katong Primary School website. Seems like much less foreigners there now, but...better than nothing. Will check that out when school reopens. It would be great if there is someone whose child is in that school can advise how things are like in there.
My husband and I went to have a look around Punggol. Edgefield Primary School looked impressive on the internet. Of course cannot get much info since school is closed for the holidays. Will also check that out. One thing though, Punggol is so new and quite inconvenient for everyday shopping, etc.
Anyway, once again, thanks a lot for your suggestion

me trying RVPS too. I will be in Phase 2C but within 2 km. Hopefully no need to ballot and can go in. If not, I do not know which other option I have since Zhangde & Radin Ras also very popular.Phase 2C.
oops... then you stand a much better chance than me.
Me going for RVPS (hopefully still got balloting chances at 2C for >2km), if cannot then go New Town lor...
Actually doesn't really matter if i dun go in... hehe...

Can understand.
Had difficulty choosing the schools I want too.
All the schools in central area very popular.
Hopefully the balloting for >2km isn't too aggressive. Then I heng heng got chance.
We are planning to move into the area, but needs to see which school he goes into first before strategising. -

Yes, we will give a phase by phase report to help parents determine what their chances are at the end of each Phase.... Chief KS,
Would you be doing in the KS website so that can allows us have another source of viewing? Something like Take Up rate, etc etc? -

Aquirus,
Are you in 1-2km or RVPS? If yes it would be quite safe to enter Phase2C without balloting (Past history shown).
This year all primary schools reduce their intake to 240 (RVPS,ZDPS.RMPS & GESPS). The Blangah Rise Primary School the 1st time reduce to 210, it used to have 270 or 300 in the past.
I therefore foresee the P1 Registration would be verry different as compare last year in the Bukit Merah area. So far I do not have any information what is the percentage of take up rate of Phase 1 of RVPS. Think only on 7, 8 July then can see some real action.
