Rozita _______ the recipe book online as soon as its launch was made official by the publisher.

        1. ordered
        2. had ordered

        Hi

It’s inappropriate to use had ordered ( Past Perfect Tense) in this case.

The past perfect is used when we want to make it clear that the first event was completed before the second started.

The first event (launching of book) started before the second event(ordering of book).Hence using had ordered suggests that the Rozita ordered the book before its launch.

As soon as suggests a new activity starts exactly after the first one ends, therefore ordered (past tense) is a better choice here.

        Best wishes

Thanks for all help given to the above.

Thank mrswongtuition for the help. Can you elaborate how to explain this answer? I'm not so sure I can explain the above to DS1 when I barely can understand why...

                  Hi

Unless can be used instead of if not.

                  For example,

I’ll go to Chinatown unless it rains. (I’ll go to Chinatown if it doesn’t rain.)

Drive unless you drink. (Drive if you don’t drink)

                  Best wishes

                    I'd go for,

                    \"Don't drive unless you didn't drink.\"

                    unless = except if.

                    HTH.
