Opinions of the Primary School Registration System

Why should school waste efforts/time/money explaining to those who is not accepted ? If school have specific requirements (which is great ie at least they know what they need/want) then list them down (briefly) just like job description (Isn't PV interview similar in nature to Job interview).Fair enough that different schools may have different specific requirements hence will take this into careful consideration when they select PV.
Perhaps schools should consider explaining these reasons to those not chosen. By doing so may reduce the unhappiness amogst those who were rejected.

I am sure if you approach the schools they will tell you what they need

If the schools not able to tell you, you can forget about the school -

My opinions (coming from one with no privilege of Phase 2B and earlier aka as 'sourgrape'):-...
nothing to discuss since effectively you are advocating everyone to be based on distance, regardless if there are siblings or alumni or existing school teachers.
only the rich will make it -

Have you wonder why the PV thread is the longest ?I am sure if you approach the schools they will tell you what they need

length of thread does not imply a thing, nor does it necessarily indicate any thing.....some thread are hitting 700 pages soon......so ? -

If the emphasis is on the distance to school, earlier phases should have mandatory <2km criteria.
I don't think MOE's emphasis is on distance, but on an applicant's relationship with the school, hence we have phases for siblings, alumni, PVs...
Only when applicants outnumber places does distance come into play. So to me, that is MOE's secondary criteria. And rightly so, in my opinion. For I feel that a person who has contributed to the school, whether by being an ex-student or a PV or a grassroots leader, ought to have an advantage over someone who merely lives within 1km of a school. And only if all things are equal, then will those who live closer get an edge.
Has anyone thought that should MOE get rid of the distance thing, and have everyone who fall within a phase ballot, we wouldn't have the issues of high rentals, high real estate prices, declarations of false addresses etc. And that would be \"fair\" to those who live outside 2km?
Everyone advocates rule changes that would benefit their situation but there is never one system which can be fair to all. Instead of clamouring for a 0.5km distance category or arguing that others in earlier phases are less deserving, we should make the best of what we have, I think. -

Couldn't agree more.

Besides having different opinion on which earlier phases are less deserving, I think some also strongly do not agree with the \"close door\" PV selection process.
It is interesting some of us may accept that they not successful after the job interview and only a few would call the company, say it is not fair and demand an explanation on not being hired. But when it comes to PV selection, the general expectation seems to demand more transparancy explanation and fairness. Perhaps schools are not private entity and expected to be \"socially more responsible\" and find \"favouritism\" hard to be tolerated. Interesting.

It's not possible to have a system which is fair and will please everyone.
I know parents who are registering for first time will be throwing bats at me for saying this
. I am staying within 1km of Pei Hwa and like many, I did wished there was another advantage 'created' ie 'Within 500m' when I registered my son then.
There are phases in place for every child - from Phase 1 (only phase guaranteed 100%), Phase 2A1/2A2 (99.9% guarantee), Phase 2B and 2C (places are split 50/50). -
