Please help on another question and once again many thanks.

Sigh, I only know to solve it in algebra method. 😞

Question: A box of apples is shared among some people. If each person gets 5 apples, there will be 4 apples left. If each person gets 6 apples, there will be a shortage of 5 apples. How many people are there? My answer is 9 people 🙂

        Dear all,

I have some questions to ask.

        (1) A concert hall has 600 seats. 25% of the seats are premier seats while the rest are standard seats. How many premier seats must be added so that the number of premier seats will be increased to 70%?

        (2) The lengths of 2 rectangles are 11m and 19m respectively. Their total area is 321m2. What is the difference in their areas?

        (3) A group of people went hunting. On the average, 6 people hunted 5 rabbits, 15 people hunted 2 deer and 10 people hunted 1 buffalo. The total number of animals hunted was 6 more than the total number of people who went hunting. How many people went hunting?

I practically have no clue to start with especially with (3).

        Thank-you.

        Cheers,
        Belle.

                Hi small

This is a question on “Excess and shortage”.
Some may call it “Gap and Differences” concept.

I've posted solutions to some similar questions in page 65 of this thread.

                http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewtopic.php?t=149&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=640

                Gap ----- 5+4 ------9
                Difference ------6 - 5 ------1

                Number of people ------9/1 -------9

You may also solve this question with \"Making a systemmatic list\".

                1) List down the multiples of 5

                2) List down the multiples of 5 + 4

                3) List down the multiples of 6

                4) List down the multiples of 6 - 5

                5) Find the common number in (2) and (3)

                Best wishes

                  Hi

                  Where is this question from?
                  There are two answers.

                  Use Guess and Check/listing.

                  The first answer

                  24*11 ----- 264
                  3*19 ----- 57

                  Difference -----207

                  The second answer

                  5*11 ----- 55
                  14*19 ---- 266

                  Difference ------211

                  Best wishes

                        Hi small and tianzhu,

For (1) on premier seats, my mum got the same answer as small but I got the answer same as tianzhu. She was unsure that a hall has 600 seats can have 900 premier seats…
These questions are from a worksheet given by my teacher.
                        Thank-you.
                        Cheers,
                        Belle.
