        Dear Mr James Ang,

        May I know how to solve the below problem?

        Jean is a hairdresser. She receives a fixed basic salary each month. She also receives a commission of 15% per hair service done. Last year, the average amount that she received for her hair services per month was $2,400. If her earnings was $17,520 last year, find her monthly fixed basic salary.
        (source: PSLE Revision paper 4; answer is $1100).

        Thank-you.

        Cheers,
        Belle.

          What about questions like this? Any good books to assist :roll: ?

          1. Julian had 300 more cards than Faizal. Julian gave 3/5 of his cards to Faizal. Faizal than gave 1/4 of the total number of what he had then to Julian. In the end, Faizal had 300 more cards than Julian. How many cards did Julian have at first?

            Hi

            I suggest you use MD to solve this question. Please follow the following steps.

            At First
            Julian ------- 5 units + 300
            Faizal ------- 5 units
            \t
            After Julian gave 3/5 of his cards to Faizal.
            Julian ------ 2 units + 120
            Faizal ----- 5 units + 3 units + 180 ----- 8 units + 180

            After Faizal than gave 1/4 of the total number of what he had then to Julian.
            Julian ------- 2 units + 120 + 2 units + 45 ------- 4 units + 165
            Faizal ------- 6 units + 135
            \t
            In the end, Faizal had 300 more cards than Julian.
            4 units + 165 + 300 ------ 6 units + 135
            2units ------- 330
            1 unit ------- 165

            At First
            Julian ------ 5 units + 300 ------ (5*165) + 300 ------1125

              Please help on this Q! Thanks!

              Jack packed his books into 2 boxes, Box A & Box B.
              He packed (4/5) as many books in Box A as Box B at 1st.
              After transferring 16 books from Box B to Box A, there are now (3/4) as many books in Box B as Box A.
              How many books were there in each box at 1st?

                Hi, this is internal transfer with unchange total.
                Equate the total of both A & B before and after the transfer;

                Before
                A : B
                4 : 5
                28 : 35 Total --> 63

                After
                A : B
                4 : 3
                36 : 27 Total --> 63

                Using A;
                36u - 28u --> 16
                8u --> 16
                1u --> 16 / 8 = 2

                At first;
                A--> 2 * 28 = 56
                B --> 2 * 35 = 70

                  Hi, can someone please help on the question below? Many thanks.

                  Question :
                  There are $5 notes, $2 notes, 50 cent coins and 20 cent coins found in a cash register. The total number of coins is 5/8 of the total number of notes. There are 36 more notes than the number of coins. The number of 20 cent coins is 1/3 of the number of 50 cent coins. The number of $5 notes is twice the number of $2 notes. What is the total value of all the notes and coins in the cash register?
