          Hi

Happy New Year To All !
I heard that for successful DSA application, the single most important factor are the P5 & P6 grades particularly P6 SA1 grades; that is if a GEP child achieves 80 or more for each subject in P6 SA1, he/she is almost certain to secure a place in the choice of school thru DSA.

How about the IRS project ? Can anyone advise whether the IRS project is also important for DSA application ? And how important is it ?

          Thanks !

Need your advices urgently as she has to decide/register her CCA on 6 Jan.
It depends on the school you're DSA-ing into. During the interview, the school will want to find out more about you and someone with a strong CCA record will have an advantage over someone with a weak CCA record, all other things being equal. But if your dd is thinking of NYGH, then if her grades are good, she may be offered a place even without an interview, so CCA might not be that important.[/quote]

Can check those DSA school , are they different every year ? Any idea how to find which CCA these schools are interested in ? Are they listed anywhere ?

Just to clarify that the above comments by vk2010 and h530251 were misquoted. Allamanda was the original poster, quoted below. Thanks.

                Hi parents

My girl has just started her GEP in NYPS this year, as she is new to the school, she has to sign up a CCA. She wish to continue her chinese orchestra (since P1 to P3 in her previous sch, ever took part in SYF<silver> and International Arts Festival competition<gold>). She has a high chance of getting into NYPS sch team. Due to long travelling distance (tampines ~ bukit timah) and logistic problem, I am thinking of letting her choose another CCA end at 4pm whereby she can still catch the last school bus back home. As for orchestra, practices end at 5pm twice a week.

Is CCA important for GEP students? I heard they usually based on results/interviews/portfolios to apply for DSA.

You'll have to check with the individual schools. Some schools will list their Sports DSA list on their website. Others you'll have to call up. And yes, the sports DSAs may change from year to year depending on their requirements.

First and foremost, if you're applying for DSA via academic or GEP domains, your grades will be most important. If you need to sit for the GAT, even having a sterling IRS (ie even if you've won awards at IRS) will not help you if you don't clear GAT.

At the interview stage, some schools will take a closer look at your portfolio and achievements. IRS will come into play here, as will any other special abilities/achievements/certs that you have, be it Math Olympiads, school sports teams etc. It also depends on your IRS, what awards you garnered with that IRS (represented Singapore at OM, garnered distinction etc at IvP, FPS etc) etc.

Thanks jtoh. Where grades r concerned, to hv a higher n better chance at dsa, does the gep student hv to achieve 80marks or more for each subj or an average of min 80marks?

                        Thanks!
