John has a number of 10-cents coins and Mary has a number of 50-cents coins. John has 6 more coins than Mary but Mary has $9.00 more than John. How much does John has?

Number of coins;
Mary --> 1 unit
John --> 1 unit + 6

Amount;
Mary --> 1 unit * 50 = 50 units
John --> 10 units + 60

Since Mary has 900cents more than John;
50units - 10units - 60 => 900
40units => 900 + 60 = 960
1unit => 960 / 40 = 24

John;
10 * 24 + 60 = 300cents = $3.00

Need help with this Maths question - please solve using model.
Jack and Jill has some sweets. If Jack gives Jill 41 sweets, they will have the same number of sweets. If Jill gives Jack 41 sweets, Jack’s sweets will be twice as many as Jill’s sweets. How many sweets do they have?

Sorry, I'm new here. Was surfing these forum and trying to contribute :-). And came across this question. After reading it, I have one question. Can you tell me why divide by 40?


i.e the step 960/40.

Since 40 units denotes 960, to find 1 unit, we use 960 divided by 40.
