        Dear all,

        Another question on S&T:

Karen was allowed to use the art materials. She must put them back in their original positions after using them.
        … provided that…

My answer: Karen was allowed to use the art materials provided that she put them back in their original positions after using them.

        Thank-you.

        Cheers,
        Belle

          Hi Belle2011

Provided that is a connecting word which expresses a condition.
It means if, or only if.

I am more inclined to go for

Karen would be allowed to use the art materials provided that she put them back in their original positions after using them.

          Best wishes

                    Hi

I’ve been trying to understand what does this phrase in the year is trying to tell us.

Does it refer to a specific moment or a period of time?

The Simple Past Tense refers to a completed action and the signal words include last year, two years ago, in 2005.

In this particular case, I’d go for the Present Continuous Tense to refer to an action which began in the past and is still continuing. In the year means the current year in this case.

I’d go for option (1) has been receiving.

Please let me know the correct answer.

                    Best wishes
