Opinions of the Primary School Registration System

Busymom:
Giving money to the school is akin to buying a space (giving to the principal is BRIBERY!) - again, the richest will win; just like proximity; those who can afford will always pay their way through the system if this is allowed (although unofficially, we all know that this happens)Or those who are able to donate some sum of money?
Eventually, it boils down to someone in the school making that determination.
Just thinking aloud, may not be a correct comparison, but how transparent is the letter from SHHK - as in, who gets and who doesn't get?
Isn't this worse? -

Well, the thread starter has been advocating transparency.
 So, what about for transparency's sake?

ohl, i have heard of such things too but it is usually from a 2nd or 3rd party or whatever no. they are in the queue. so how true the info is, i really dont know.
if i got my kid in thru this way, believe me, my mouth would be as tight as that of a clam and not a single soul will know even my kid. -

But you have to say in order for those of us (think we're labelled as the pro status quo camp) to even consider supporting any change in policy, it will be logical for us to want to understand beforehand what are the practical implications on the ground. Reasonable request, no?
Well, we are at the nascent stages yes? Before we get into details, is there at least a high level agreement that
1) having a large amount of P-school places locked away by 2A for popular schools is undesirable,
2) that any solution will likely impact on some of those that have got 'guaranteed' 2A places
And work from there?
If there is no agreement here, then it is pointless moving past this point, as this will predictably get bogged down with differing people getting into different preferences about details, not being united in any one push back EXCEPT the desire to maintain status quo. -

I do not believe this occurs. Stating that it does is not helpful to your case, better not to push it. -

2A1 includes children of School Advisory/Management Committee too
Include them too....cap, I mean -
There is no end to this issue…it’s not possible to please everyone either.

That much is a truism. but I do support if alumni, sch advisory board (what is it they do really) are more active and thereby 'earn their stripes' in getting priority registration.
My fren told me her hubby join the alumni of his old school and was asked if he would like to be part of organizing committee. Apparently, most of the alumni are sleeping members only.
