Recently I just viewed a 2nd hand Yamaha U1 piano- Made in Japan. The serial no is 865877. Does anyone knows how old is the piano?

I tried this website, but unfortunately, I don't really understand.

If I'm not mistaken, looks like it was made in 1969 (see first column somewhere in the middle)

This piano is about manufacture in 1957. So the piano is about 54 years old.

i bought my piano from Piano Master.


Subsequently intro my friend to buy from them. She was super happy coz the budget she has could only allow her to buy a 2nd piano. but at Piano Master, she could get a brand new one and her kids are enjoying it.

I recently bought a Yamaha U1 piano because it has a silent option where my daughter could play and use the ear phone. It looks like quite a good piano and is selling at Yamaha (Plaza Sing).

Hence, I am thinking of selling my current Yamaha piano cheaply. The model is Yamaha C108. Please pm me if you know of anyone who wish to buy a second hand piano.

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL!

My DS is currently 6 yo and have started him on a 1-1 pte lesson (beginner lesson). He is currently practising on a keyboard. Although the teacher says no need to get a piano, i think it would be advisable to get one soon… in order for him to practise seriously.

I am in a dilemma now… to get a NEW/USED piano? OR just continue to let him practise on keyboard till grading comes?

NEW/USED piano - Any particular brand / make that is suitable?

Kindly advise.

One of my friend said do not require keyboard or piano from Beginner to hit Grade 1. If the child cannot make it to Grade 1 then the piano teacher is lousy!

Piano keys and keyboard keys may be different in size and feel (depending on the keyboard you buy). The touch is different and sound may also be different.

Since your child is just starting, you may want to consider 2nd hand piano. it's more cost effective and you won't feel heart pain if you/your child wants to give it up later.

Between keyboard and piano. If you are considering a high end keyboard (that has feel and touch of piano), don't. Apparently those won't last for many grades (I heard up to Grade 3), could be pricey and have very very little resale value. Pianos will depreciate (prices very low if you sell back to dealer) but there is still some attributable value.

I got a used Yamaha U3 (price differential from U1/2 is very small) when DS1 started on his 1-1 class. We got that becos it's exam model (ie higher in height) and supposedly can last for many many grades - really don't want to have to keep changing.
