I have been in the preschool education industry (teaching and curriculum writing roles) for many years and my close friend has also set up a childcare centre in 2005.

As mentioned, staff turnover rate is a killer and so is rental cost. Staff turnover rate is high because this industry has high stress, low pay and respect. Those who have better qualifications and come into this industry usually leave after a few moths to a year.

My friend’s centre closed within 2 years of operation as the landlord wanted to sell his semi-detached house during the property boom.

In the childcare business, we are talking about very young children so their safety is a very real concern; it’s very different from selling beverage. Without adequate manpower and good manpower, you will end up having to assume multiple roles yourself - the cook, cleaner, teacher and assistant teacher. You also have to constantly keep a look out that your teachers do not abuse the children either verbally or physically because not everyone is suited for this demanding yet low paying job.

How about the recent bubble tea craze? Like Gong Cha and Koi? They always have long queues… must be making big bucks from the syrup and water.

Yes, I think bubble tea is making much more $ than coffee bean or starbuck cos they don't need a big space for table and sofa. Usually ppl take away. But must get from the right source. Otherwise it will be difficult to retain customers.

This is a good business. The most important is how to make a good quality bubbles tea.

My sister wants to set up a beforeafter school care. Is it worth it? I was advising her not to as now most schools are one session so you can’t earn from the ‘before school’ part.

                    Any advice on this?

If u’re thinking of setting up of a chilcare centre, i would advise u, not to...

Hi, how about tuition centres? Is it possible to operate a one-man show initially, gradually build up a small reputation in the local area, and then expand with more teachers?

As it's quite inconvenient to operate from home, I'm thinking of getting a shop. With a shop front, I suppose there's a better chance of getting more students. The downside, of course, is rental costs.

Any opinions / advice much appreciated.

                      Hi,

You still thinking of setting up a centre?

                      I'm looking to sell
