Hi, I would like to hear your opinions on 新朋友, which is somewhat like a Chinese magazine with exercises and simple games.
I believe some CL classes in MBS are using it as homework.
I’ve looked through the magazine and it seems to me that the difficulty level is too high. For example, my DD (P2) isn’t familiar with almost one-quarter of the chinese characters used in a cloze passage. Fortunately for her, I was around and helped her with most of the questions.
Does your child need a lot of help when doing the exercises in 新朋友?
[Rant] Nowadays, it seems homework is set for the pupils AND their parents! I heard that in the upper levels (P4-6), school projects are actually completed mostly by parents. I really pity those kids whose parents can’t help. -
The cloze passage is ok for my dd. The only issue I have with this new edition is that the choices given were too close to each other and hence sometimes my dd takes a longer time to read through all of them again.
I haven't had the chance to look at her textbook but is 暗暗高兴 taught? This was found in the 新朋友 issue for lesson 3. She stumbled on this one but remembered she read this somewhere in her storybooks.
Do you find that there are many hw for CL? No CL hw for 1 day is like a bonus to her. -
I’ve checked with the CL teacher. It is true that some of the words are 见面字 which are words that have shown up in the textbooks but never formally tested. (But I still feel some words used in 新朋友 may have never even shown up previsouly.)
I think my dd needs catching up. What’s the best way to pick up new words?
Maybe I need to prepare a full list of words that she should have seen in her textbooks and drill her. -
ummm… I think my DS never even read the entire passage. He only write the characters based on the hanyu pinyin stated there.
-
Actually the answer is found in the passage itself. Just read through it.

Hi,
Anyone’s P4 kids going to Nanjing this year?
Or parents who have done that, any experience to share? eg. watchouts, etc… -

Has anyone taken a look at the P2 Holistic Assessment letter?
I didn't know that the 过新年 show and tell was part of the assessment.
My dd went to school without memorising it and she didn't tell me that marks will be awarded. -

I recall it was mentioned somewhere before. Not sure was it during the Parent Meet Teachers' session. Think this show and tell takes up 5 marks. Seems like the teachers haven't come back to them on the marks.Has anyone taken a look at the P2 Holistic Assessment letter?

Think my son would have failed cos he didn't tell me it's show and tell. I just got him to bring an angpow packet cos it's the lightest. Didn't do any prep work at home. And dh who attended the session didn't mention this at all
