I do. Just went round giving all my staff. Those who have kids I will also give a small angpow for their kids.

I think it is done more by small business owners. You will seldom see this in the corporate world unless your boss is the traditional type who consults fengshui and stuff.

My boss gave last year, only after he heard another dept colleague mention that giving kai gong angpow is good for the business. This year, that colleague isnt around, and so my boss conveniently forgot. This, despite the fact that I bai nian to him.

What is the market rate for angpao this year 2012?

I think the average amt is $10-$20 for relatives’ kids depending on how close the relations. But DD got a $4 ang pow from a relative’s relative. I thot chinese don’t give the amt $4 for auspicious reasons?

$4 was quite common. From what I know, some donch give odd dollars, eg $5 or even $10...which is why it was common to find $12.

The most outrageous that I heard this year was my cousin giving my elderly grandparents $4 each. :yikes:

hmm...I've never given angpow to my grandparents!!! :oops: OK, only 1 survived when I started to work!!


Anyway, my family donch have the practice of giving angpow to parents too...although there will always be a 'token amt' used for 'bai nian'. But normally we will give $$$ before the CNY for them to prepare for the festival (buy new things), reunion dinner and the angpows they have to give out.
