Oh, i c, so that's how they try to close the gap, if not, pointless to make all come together but can't play a proper tune together nor individually! Hopefully a few months later, all can be \"fully engaged\" at all practices. :celebrate:

yup by the time they can all come together and play a fine tune.....those P6 are going to step down liao πŸ˜‰

The p6s have no problem playing a fine tune, lah. But bc they are retiring soon (very soon), they have to make sure the juniors can do well enough lor. \"BeCheerful\" - your boy in CO too?
Of course the P6 boys should not have the problem playing a fine tune by now. They are the senior. Some even went for grading exam and competition just like your son. What I mean is that by the time the young ones can play well, the P6 are going to step down....probably no chance to perform together esp under a new team of teachers and conductor.

Yeah, when ds started last year in P1, he had a P5 senior to \"teach\" him. But he had to wait for like half the CCA session then get to receive \"guidance\" from senior at 2nd half of the session. 😞 This year hopefully better with latest change in CCA arrangement. πŸ™‚

The teacher mentioned about taking up own music lesson outside CCA and can prepare to go for grading exams since end of P1! That scared me quite a bit! Will see how it goes. Any advice from experienced CO mummies? Is it too taxing and when should he start if we're keen?

I just hope that his passion will still be there while coping with all his homework and revision ... ds pretty lazy at times and will bargain with me when it comes to all these serious work! Like work 5 min rest 20mins! 😒

It depends on your child? Did you ask him whether he wants private lessons outside? It's just like having piano or violin lessons, just that he will be doing Chinese instruments.

To my boys, it's a regular part of their life. I mean, music lesson is only 1x/week. Practising is also a regular part of their life. My ds2 did his Gr7 chinese instrumental exam last year. This year we'll see how. Quite alright bc exams are around 7 weeks after pSLE.

Thanks Phankao for sharing your experience. πŸ˜„ Coz ds enjoys learning in CO and had just started piano this year too as we didn't plan for external classes for er hu when he started CO last Sept. So far he seems quite interested in both instrument.

Ok, since grading exam is usually in year end holiday, then will observe him for awhile more and let him decide, since he needs to make this commitment, not me. Or else, he'll write in his journal to English teacher to complain that he has \"no rest days and not enough play time\" again. 😐 Yeah, he wrote that in his first journal this year before he started 1st piano lesson. Sooo paiseh!

                Hi,

I intend to do PV in CHS, however I was wondering what are the areas that they are in need so that I can provide help. Rather then providing all my expertise, I think this can help to reduce the time and effort to go through my application. And giving me a higher chance to be selected for PV.

                :?:

                  hmm…

The best answer you can get is to call up the school General Office.

                  Here is what I know,
                  1. First you must stay within 1km from the school.
                  2. Second, be prepare to be ballot against all who qualify for PV phase for just 9 places like last year.
                  3. Get form from General Office.
                  4. Fill the form with your best credential, with potential of being call up for PV briefing, not all will be called up.
                  5. During briefing, they will brief you about some project which school is interested or you can proposed a project which you think the school will be interested. Go to CHS for a walk, all the nice walls and display are mostly work of PV.
                  6. If you take school proposed project, you will be selected.
                  7. If you propose project, school interested, you will be called up.

Last year, 1 PV who failed to be balloted for the 9 vancancies during PV phase 2B tried balloting again for the next open phase 2C 9 vancancies and got balloted. your heart will jump out.

The best bet is still the phase before PV which is for the 2A2 when father or brother is old boys or either parents is staff of school.

Yes, Band has morning practises and I think they report at 6.50am, according to a mommy that I know.

Hmmm... any experienced mums or dads who know of a good after school care centre near school? Should have reasonable food and will check and guide boys with their homework type.

Coz this couple of weeks ds has been coming home with quite a lot of homework everyday. I spent hours guiding him with his work and to ensure that he doesn't doze off in the afternoon hours... Looks like the load is getting heavier by the day.

I don't know how to manage this when I go back to work a few months later when my leave ends... If he can only get guidance when I get home like 7 plus in evening, then we'll probably finish at midnight! Mother-in-law is looking after him but know nothing about school work. 😞

                        Any recommendation? :?:
