Actually you can't hide the newspaper from the maid. When they meet other maids outside, they will also talk about it. Unless, your house don't subscribe newspaper, you don't let her go out to run errands and she has no off day, and you dispose the rubbish yourself then maybe it's possible to hide from her.

True lah, but do what is within our means to keep info from the helper.

If the agency sent them to the airport, they will make sure the maid enters the gate before they leave. So, I don’t think it’s gonna be any problem. Once the maid is pass on to them, the accountability is shift to them. So they will make sure the maid enters the gate.

Someone told me that they've heard of cases where after the maid entered the gate, she created a commotion and refused to clear immigration, called embassy etc... In the end she didn't leave and sought refuge in Singapore while the employer was left trying to sought out problem of overstaying, various complaints by maid etc.

Anyone else heard of cases like this?

Have all of you hidden your newspapers? You don't want your maids reading it and getting ideas.

No I don't hide my newspapers.

I talked to my maid before about working for expats. She told me that she has friends working for expats and the work is tough. She prefers to work for me.

              πŸ˜‰
That's good. At least she can think for herself. Sometimes the maids talk to one another and the less logical ones get led astray by the others. Mine is easily influenced by others, not thinking logically.

My maid is over 40 years old, more than 10 years of working experience in Singapore. She is the one influencing other maids. πŸ˜‰

Hubby's colleague had a Filipino maid who ran away in the middle of the night. The embassy called the employer to go to the embassy the next morning. COMPLAINT made by maid is - Maid is left at home to look after bb all the time. Is the maid here to enjoy life or work ?

OMG, i not even dare to ask my maid to look after my baby at night, i am the one who need to wake up few times to feed my baby.

Yup...I looked after my bb myself too...but my 1st maid was really good. No maid after her is anywhere close to her in terms of hygiene and committment.
I had one ex-maid who worked for me for over 2 years. I found out after I sent her away, that she ran away from her previous employer, leaving the new born baby alone at home.

I knew nothing about this when I employed her. The maid agency knew about this, and they knew I needed her to look after my baby, but they still recommended her.

Maid agencies are a bunch of heartless people.
